My host doesn`t want to give me more ip`s for a few websites of mine that are currently under construction... so it seems that i`m forced to put all websites under one ip-adress.

Some say that sucks, some say it doesn`t matter... anyway... i want all websites on different ip`s just to be sure... The sites will be linked to eachother as part of the network of sites, so if they are on the same ip google could see that as interlinking.
Maybe there are more reasons to have a unique ip for every site. When i look at some "big guys" that seem to have there shit together... i`m not seeing more sites on one ip...

My host says: ip`s are getting rare and for us to give you new ip`s you must have a very good reason before we give you the ip`s.

Doesn`t it sound like a big pile of dogshit? Especcialy considering that before they told me that there are more ip`s for me to use... now they are getting back on that...

Is this shit normal?

Our host now requires we buy an SSL cert. for the reason Ips are becoming rarity.

Yes that`s what they told me too... that ssl cert. Well... why would i need that?

It's used for IP justification. So they can try to get more IP addresses by showing they are needed, since SSL requires an IP address to be configured correctly.

It makes sense to have seperate IPs and they are limiting you based on sites not going live. As frustrating as it is they just want you to justify new resources. So get the "in construction going" and rock the new year with some new IPs! :D

At this point there are a few sites allready "live under construction"... i`m working on them and they can see these sites are real sites... Now i`m on the point i want to give them their own ip and now this shit comes up... So i can justify new resources but they won`t give me new...

I believe IPv4 space has nearly run out at APNIC (Asia Pacific), and RIPE (EU) isn't far behind. So your host is not spouting BS. Everyone will be in the same boat, sooner or later.

I only work on IPv12 now. Get with the time muppets!

well get, it's considered a valid reason to request an IP.
That doesn't mean you will get one though.
With RIPE (responsible for EU) you can only request one final /22 (1024 ips) at this point, even if you can vouch for more ips, you simple ain't gonna get them.

They could make me a good offer if i would sign a 4 year contract. I had instant growth at one point. From 1 moment to the other i used 4 times the amount of datatraffic i used to. They offered me a larger package for the same price as i was allready paying if i signed a contract for 4 years... I thought it was a good deal: growing but keeping my costs on the same level. My plan is also to still be around in 4 years... I always try to think long term...

Yeah sure i believe that about ipv4 but what if i was a new customer at my host...
would they denie me and say: sorry we can`t help you because we ran out of ipv4 ?
Maybe they think: he has a 4 year contract... he`s not going anywhere... let`s keep those ipv4`s for new customers and we tell our contract customers to go fuck themselfs.
