Google Introduces New Tool - Disavow Links!

https://www.google.com/webmasters/to...nks-main?pli=1

If you have sites linking to you that are killing your rankings, now you can ask Google to disavow them so they no longer count.

Check it out! :thumbsup

Interesting

Emil 10-16-2012 02:42 PM

Yeah, so who on earth is going to sit and remove all thousands and thousands of links after someone has done some negative-SEO work.

alias 10-16-2012 02:56 PM

Kind of a gamble. :2 cents:

scottybuzz 10-16-2012 02:58 PM

shouldn't it be google's job to work that out?!

baddog 10-16-2012 03:29 PM

Interesting. At least now I know where to send people that expect me to clean up their dumb SEO.

pornmasta 10-16-2012 03:31 PM

waste of time, if something is bad don't link them...

Bat_Man 10-16-2012 03:39 PM

It is hard to believe that Google really done that.If is there would be a great increase of their popularity. I can't wait to check that.

TheSenator 10-16-2012 03:44 PM

Black Hat SEOers have already taken advantage of this new feature.

tabasco 10-16-2012 03:50 PM

How many years did they say there was NOTHING your competition could do to hurt your rankings?

They quietly admitted that was a lie awhile ago: http://support.google.com/webmasters...n&answer=34449

WiredGuy 10-16-2012 04:29 PM

Interesting, I doubt many webmasters would actually use this until they're being penalized for bad links. It does seem that if Google wants webmasters to disavow links, that Google is going to introduce stiffer penalties for links from bad sites and rely on webmasters to disavow them rather than just ignore them.

I don't get it. It shows me my sites, but I can only click "disavow links" does that disavow ALL inbound links? What's on the next page, any try it yet? Do you get to see whose linking to you and choose the bad ones?

this^^

anyone using this google tool would basically be telling google that they are very hands on in worrying about seo, which seems to go away from google's idea that this whole linking thing is supposed to be completely natural and something a real webmaster is not even supposed to think about, instead just doing their job as a webmaster creating good content

using any google tool is a bad idea

Colmike9 10-16-2012 04:43 PM

lol, they probably just got too many emails about that, especially comment spam, so they made a tool for people to do it themselves and shut up about it...

Kind of how McAfee has a button to click to 'tell McAfee to scan the site' for sites not rated yet, which is grey, but those buttons only show up on sites that are in their queue already...

Zeiss 10-16-2012 04:48 PM

That's pretty cool. Now those that use sape or indians for black seo are pretty much fucked.

Counter argument, anyone whose willing to tell google everything about themselves is likely not trying to hide something. Many people get "worried about SEO" after the shit hits the fan and they have to fire all their employees because they lost all their rankings.. That's also natural ;)

You mean easier. Think webmasters are gonna sit there going thru every single link clicking disavow? Think webmasters are going to keep coming back every day looking for when Google found more spam links? If so, they're gonna be awfully busy :)

That is my question as well. Perhaps an extra click will reveal if I can choose the ones to disavow, but I git the impression I was leaving it in their hands (with the number of clicks I made anyway).

That's an interesting paradox, because if I remember correctly, links:domain.com in Google doesn't show every link, only those that have a reasonable PR.

So using Google to find links to your sites is more likely to show the good rather than the bad. :1orglaugh

TheSquealer 10-16-2012 07:40 PM

To disavow links and for it to matter, you would have to see all links in real time as Google discovers them. Traditionally, Google doesn't show even a tiny % of inbound links.

baddog 10-16-2012 08:36 PM

You could start with your server stats

Really? If I build 100k xrumer backlinks tomorrow from Korean image boards or SimpleMachine profile links or comment spam from 5 year old BlogEngine posts that have 200 comments already, you really think you're going to see traffic and referring URLs?

So basically, after all these years of claiming to know about SEO and offering SEO services, you have no clue how backlinks are built and how backlinks are used to attack competition.

Stick to taking pictures and riding your motorcycle.

I love watching Google accelerate face first towards the wall.
They need to lose more market share.

Get-out-of-jail-free card for link spammers.

Klen 10-17-2012 12:29 AM

Just tried tool, all you had to do is to upload list of backlinks for which you think they are bad and that's it.But you need to use tool like majesticseo.com or similar to determine which of your backlinks are bad.

DeletedBlogger 10-29-2012 10:48 AM

Inside Webmaster Tools, you can see inbound links to your domain that Google sees. It is much more thorough a list then what a "link:yoursite.com" will show up.

The info is there, just need to dig it up.

See a much larger sampling of links to a verified site:

1. On the Webmaster Tools Home page, click the site you want.
2. On the left-hand menu, click Traffic, and then click Links to Your Site.

I can only see referring domains there, not the specific pages on them that are linking to you. Could make it a little difficult to determine if it's a genuine link, or negative SEO.

There's at least one sus looking referral site showing on one of mine - IP only, doesn't seem to be a valid server or even at a webhost, total links 110296, total linked pages 1264
