Report: Green-jobs program struggling to place workers

"More than half of the 81,354 people that completed training in the stimulus program already had jobs, the report said.

In a sample of 81 enrollees who already had jobs, the investigators “found no evidence that they needed green job training” to reach program goals of obtaining full-time employment, career advancement or job retention.

In all, the program helped 30,857 workers find jobs for some period of time. That amounted to 38 percent of the program’s target of 81,254 jobs. But that figure also included those who were already employed and earned a new position because of the training."

Government.. Waste.. as usual...

The problem is that I don't really believe either party wants to eliminate govt waste. They want to eliminate the other party's govt waste and increase their own. No one wants to be a responsible spender.

That's not really a waste at all. Great, they retooled some some people who already had more traditional jobs, which... opened up yet more jobs for those who haven't been retooled.

Look at it this way. You fuckers just spent $341mil of your tax dollars on a fucking freeway bypass for a freeway you will never drive on in a city that you will never visit. You can look at that money as a waste. Or you can look at that money as $341mil spent on local jobs which was in turn spent locally in our area, not to mention all of the steel we bought from companies across the country in PA, the train companies that transported it, or the company in San Mateo that put everything together for us. Was it a waste or did it employ thousands of people over a four year period and hundreds of companies?

Oh we all have those bridges and bypasses to nowhere. We have several in my area but our highway building is based on consumption tax per gallon and the coffers are always filled and everything is budgeted from that.


Here's my states budget for highway maintenance and how little the Feds spend on what are considered "their" roads.

That's just maintenance and in many other areas the federal government in most cases gave $0..

The federal government should be nothing but military and part-time State mediators. Everything they do is complete waste and can be handled by the states.
