I'm not sure if this Romney story is true, but if so it is kind of sad and funny

According to this site Romney's campaign went to Walmart and bought $5,000 worth of food and supplies then gave them out to people so that they could "deliver" them to his hurricane relief drive he held yesterday in Ohio. I read another story that people did show up with stuff, but had to wait two hours until he arrived before they could actually donate it because he wanted to be there to accept it.

Sounds fake to me.

But similar to Ryan pushing his way into a soup kitchen to wash already clean dishes.

It is quite normal in China

What is kind of funny about the whole thing is that Romney has said this drive will gather supplies for the Red Cross. The Red Cross has said several times they don't really need supplies, they need money. Supplies are hard for them to process and deal with. With money then can buy exactly what they need.

I never give money. I know they use up a lot of it in Expenses, I use to give to a shelter a few frozen turkeys every christmas.

Exactly. When Hurricane Katrina happened, my ex--business partner Al held a big drive for people to bring stuff to our offices in South Carolina.

People brought tons of bottled water, canned foods, clothing, childrens toys, etc.
Then he put it all in a semi-truck and drove it down to New Orleans himself.

We never donated money. That would go to administrative costs instead of the people needing help.

something like 10-20% of money donated to redcross goes to its intended purpose.
the rest goes to pay it's employees and shit like that

I always do toys for tots, mostly because it's local and done by the Marines.

Yep. I have a friend of mine who works for the Red Cross. He's an engineer. He makes huge bucks, supervises all construction for their local offices in California, and also does the disasters. I'm sure he is there now. Every year he gets a shiny brand new Jeep.

Pitiful isn't it?

Vendzilla 10-31-2012 04:24 PM

Yet they will say that only 17% goes towards administration, when in fact, less than 50% gets to the intended target.
I remember hearing about how Mother Teresa collected millions for the poor and most of the money went to building new nunneries.

mikesouth 10-31-2012 04:32 PM

The only org that I know of that gives 100% of all donations (no administrative overhead) to the intended purose is the Shriners

Don't know. Organizations like the Red Cross need engineers.

Pretty crazy. I was surprised to watch on CNN today as volunteers with sand bags where kept behind ropes as a nursery school filled with crippled children in wheel chairs flooded with water. A spokesman said they had to wait so President Obama could throw the first few sand bags. He should be here within the next hour or so.

Doesn't surprise me. Both sides are trying to politicize the disaster without appearing to politicize the disaster.

And the engineer is not non-profit or charity...he's an engineer.

Restated in a business related way :

It's been all over the news today. I don't know if its true or not. It seems to fucked up even for Romney, but then again... I wouldn't put it past him. the douche.

Meanwhile, people displaced by the fires slept in their cars! I bet the flights and hotel rooms where all "program expenses." Not just rumors or hearsay - Local TV news covered it well at the time.
