Best pro-piracy stances I have seen yet.

On Reddit there is a big thread about piracy. The person that started the thread explains how piracy has changed their life for the better. Of course many people jumped in to defend piracy and back him up.

There were two excuses that blew my mind. One guy (actually there were several people who all felt the same way) said that he had downloaded some very expensive software and learned how to use it. Because of this he was able to get a decent paying job. Once he had experience he got a better job and that job sent him to school to learn a different software. So now when he is done with this schooling society will have a worker what has knowledge and experience so piracy actually helped better society so the public in general, he claims, has benefited from piracy in his case. Apparently the fact that he has personally greatly benefited from piracy, yet the company that he pirated the software from has gained nothing doesn't matter.

The best excuse though is that the entertainment industry is just like the illegal drug industry. They put out a product that is so addicting and they release trailers and samples of the product that are so enticing that people actually feel pressure to see/own this stuff so they will fit in with their friends so people are left with no choice but to pirate because there is no way to resist it.

I always get a good laugh from people's justifications of piracy, but those two take the cake.

Hahahaha WTF!

Now if software guy had eventually bought the software after I learned it I would give him a pass because he still owned a license but something is telling me he still has a cracked version.

i had a discussion last week with a guy from Romania who says he hasnt bought anything in years, he even downloads all day long while working at IBM here (wonder what their admins are paid for).

he says he doesnt earn enough money to buy all the stuff and in his home country it would be even worse at an average income of 400 or 500 euro a month - no one can afford games, music, movies etc.

the concept "when you cant afford something then you cant have it" made no sense to him.

The thread was packed with the age old pirate's mantra of "I wouldn't have bought it anyway so it isn't like the company is out any money." Had they not purchased it, great. The company doesn't make a sale and they don't have the product. However, they can't seem to grasp the fact that they now have the product and the company still doesn't have their money.

The pirates will always find another crappy excuse to justify their actions..

it fucks it up for everyone else who is honest and buys the software, if photoshop couldn't be pirated we wouldn't have $10/hr designers anymore, and designer would actually be a decent well paid profession... :2 cents:

I have a friend who did well as a designer from about 1998-2004/5. Back then it took a few grand worth of software to be able to do everything clients would want. Then when piracy got so prevalent and guys in third world countries could just download that software, learn it and do the same job of 10% of the cost it eventually put him out of business.

Photoshop is arguably the biggest and best editor of course...but there's been cheaper alternatives that do almost everything Pshop does.

Photoshop Elements for example. Or Ulead PhotoImpact...PhotoScape, Gimp, etc.

I used an ancient copy of (shareware) Aldus Photostyler2.0 for many, many years to do much of my photo editing and image manipulation. I still use it quite often these days...despite having bought copies of both PS CS4 and Elements.

A $10/hr. designer can have the 'Ferrari' app - but unless he knows how to use it properly to its full potential...he's still just a $10/hr. designer.

I use Photoscape so fucking much for batch work and watermarking. I'm done what I need to do by the time Pshop loads.

EVERYBODY and I do mean EVERYBODY in RO steals in one form or another. Hell the Prime Minister stole more than 50% of his 432 page 2003 PhD thesis in law !!! A textbook example of rather shameless plagiarism and he remains in office without any shame. Fine lesson for all.

And multiply that by every third world country. If they sold the software for 10 cents on the dollar most of these companies would triple sales. The first world is subsidizing all of these places with music, movies and software.

This is what no one seems to grasp, we are paying the cost for this. "oh but Hollywood etc makes so much money." And they are turning out crap as no one can make a dime on a movie that doesn't go global right away. So we get to watch another Spiderman or buy Windows 7.

no, it wouldn't triple sales, shit would continue to get pirated like it is now... and some wiseguy would just sell "third world" copies of the software on ebay for a nice profit... :2 cents:

Yup, it's not bloated like PS. Quick and efficient.
