Gerard Depardieu Granted Russian Citizenship!
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-20896894
" January 2013 Last updated at 06:25 ET Gerard Depardieu 'granted Russian citizenship' French actor Gerard Depardieu has obtained Russian citizenship, according to a brief statement posted on the Kremlin website. "Vladimir Putin has signed a decree granting Russian citizenship to Gerard Depardieu," the message read. Mr Depardieu recently announced he would give up his French passport after the government criticised his decision to move abroad to avoid higher taxes. In December, Mr Putin said he would be happy to welcome the actor in Russia. "I'm sure the French authorities did not want to offend Mr Depardieu. But if he'd like to have a Russian passport, consider it settled," Mr Putin said during his annual news conference on 20 December. Under France's civil code, dual citizenship is permitted but it is unlawful to be stateless. A person must obtain another nationality before giving up French citizenship. Mr Depardieu has not yet commented on the Kremlin's latest announcement. His highly publicised tax row began last year after Socialist President Francois Hollande said he planned to raise taxes by 75% for those earning more than 1m euros (£817,400). Lambasting the government for punishing "success, creation and talent", the actor announced in early December that he would move to Belgium. Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault retaliated by calling the decision "shabby". Although the Constitutional Council struck down Mr Hollande's tax rise proposal on Sunday, Mr Depardieu said this did not change the situation "one bit". The French actor, described by Mr Putin as a successful businessman and friend, has developed close ties with Russia, which has a flat 13% personal income tax rate. He currently appears in an advertisement for Sovietsky Bank's credit card and is prominently featured on the bank's home page. In 2011, he played the lead role in the film Rasputin, a Franco-Russian production about the life of eccentric monk Grigory Rasputin. In addition, Mr Depardieu has also helped raise funds for a children's hospital in St Petersburg." http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/g...depardieu1.jpg Is Russia becoming the last bastion of Freedom? Better not work to hard. :2 cents: |
75% vs 13% personal income tax rate, Russia wins quite easily.
|
tax already is glorified theft, but 75% is just theft, plain and simple. Money grubbing governments make me fucking sick.

or are they still avoiding them when possible? |
Russia is a free country (so is Russian mentality), they let you make as much money as you want as long as you keep your mouth shut and know you're place, and that will always be below the president. No one gets jealous because for every big fish there's an even bigger fish.
Still, you can say what you want about Putin and the Government on the streets, within your network, just don't put it in a newspaper or on tv or your heavy-traffic website and all is good. Besides, I understand the guy, why would you spit in the plate you feed from? Move out and start your business elsewhere if you hate the government. And if you're a nobody no one gives a shit about what you say or do. Problems start when you become too powerful and that's quite normal. |

You think that one person can create wealth worth millions of hours work, how naive. The rich control society in order to plunder it. By owning and controlling the land, factories and resources, that is why only 6000 individuals own more than $1,000,000,000 each, not through work but through exploitation. for example sell clothes for $20 and paying Bangladeshi women $0.20. The rich need the poor, but the poor don't need the rich. let them all leave. |

so you are wrong... |

Of course, less you pay your workers and more you need to produce cheap stuffs like that, because they can't afford something else. |
