I worked as a recording engineer on some of the Damn Yankees stuff back in the 80s and I hung out with Ted for a few months. An extremely cool, funny, and very caring guy, with a real zest for life and helping those around him. He has fun playing it up for the media in his delivery and demeanor, but he does say what he means.

On a semi-related note, Nugent played a gig outside in my town a few months ago and his drummer got drunk, hijacked a golf cart, and drove the thing around town for a bit before getting arrested. It was pretty hilarious.

Anthony Bourdain did a segment with Uncle Ted for an episode of No Reservations. I have to say that while i didn't agree with everything he said, Ted did come off as a guy who is fully sane and walks it like he talks it. Tony pretty much said the same thing.

I love Nugent's music (his old stuff) but can't stand his political point of view. However this interview with him seemed like he was much more rational and coherent than I have seen him in a long time.

Since when did people take what crazy Rock n Rollers have to say so seriously?

I don't know how big Ted Nugent is in the States but if he wasn't pulling this wacky shit on tv every now and then would anyone be talking about him if he was just a musician?
