wordpress backup question
I deleted a very important wordpress page i had , I had made a backup of everything that's in a zip file using backupbuddy or something stupid it's all i have left.
When i was searching on how to re-install it said i would need .sql files also which is not the kind of backup i made. I have all of the files, you would think it would be easy just copying the directories but shit doesn't work.. Anyone have any suggestions I appreciate it |
For a live database, a normal file backup isn't a good idea. You do a dump instead.

never used buttbuddy to backup files before ...... .sql would be your database. sounds like you're screwed:Oh crap 1)go back where it was and export your db with phpmyadmin 2)read book on how to work the interwebs 3)turn on computer 4)dump wordpress 5)dump wordpress 6)dump wordpress |
i will try the phpadmin may just have to pay someone to figure it out for me thanks everyone hopefully fris checks in and has something to say!

If you delete page or post it goes to trash, in trash you can restore your page or delete it permanently. If you deleted it permanently from trash than only way to restore it is from backup.
If you used backupbuddy, your .sql file (database) might be backed up in that .zip file you have in backup. If database is not in backup than you might search on your host to see maybe you have auto backup, or ask your provider maybe they have backup. If you find backup with .sql (database) file which have your page you can export it and add just that page in phpmyadmin and have it back on your site, or restore complete database from backup. Keep in mind that everything that is added after restore it will be deleted unless you merge backup and your current database. |

if its backupbuddy its pretty straight forward. |
so we should make .sql backups ? How about .xml ? The xml files are always much bigger, I wonder what's the point in exporting xml database instead of .sql ?
