We have a thread about the worst US cities - What are the best?

What would GFY's TOP 5 cities in the US be?

I am determined to spend some time over there before I die....

No Pre-Reqs really - It would be nice if it was friendly - After all this time in London I would like to talk to people I meet...

Supz 02-24-2013 09:25 AM

New York City

I thought it was as bad if not worse than London for being unfriendly?

nyc is kick ass to visit, i've gone often and found the peeps there just fine. i've chatted with others about this idea that new yorkers are unfriendly and we think it's because people there are in a hurry. visitors aren't so much so it gets misinterpreted, could be wrong, just a coffee shop theory.

According to Business Week, San Franscico:

http://images.businessweek.com/slide...cities#slide51

I always think the smaller cities are the best.

I really like where I live. All of the modern conveniences with small town charm, off of a main freeway, low crime rate, and close enough to the "big city" (Sacramento) so we can still do things which can only be done in the city.

dyna mo 02-24-2013 09:51 AM

oh so.

nyc
washington dc
miami
new orleans
newport beach

I always have fun in Seattle when I head down there. Great food and coffee, lots to do if you enjoy the outdoors. The parks around Washington state are amazing.

You've been misinformed. I grew up in London and have lived in, and frequently visit, NYC; and New York is friendlier than London, IMHO. That may not have been the case 30 years ago, but times change.

America's Friendliest Cities according to the Today Show (in 2008 - update maybe?):

San Antonio, Texas
Nashville, Tennessee
Denver, Colorado
Davis, Colorado
Madison, Wisconsin

According to that list my city is #5. Not bad. I agree with them that Portland is a good place to live, but I don't agree with San Fran being #1. I have visited their twice and both times I couldn't wait to leave.

SmutHammer 02-24-2013 07:25 PM

People are much nicer in the South. Seems everyone has an attitude in the North.

funny 15 years ago few would have said new york, but it's come a LONG way. New york is awesome now.

I like ft lauterdale, san deigo, seattle, new york and grand forks - mostly cause it's close to drive to from where I live
