My dad was a dixieland banjo player, and I even played a little banjo when I was a kid, before falling in love with the guitar. :)

Steve Martin was an accomplished banjo player way before SNL. He started out playing, juggling and telling jokes. The banjo was a staple of Martin's early 1970s stand-up career. He simply returned to the banjo later as his career could afford it.
