anyone can recommend some shared? looking for just a domain or two, nothing bandwidth intensive, just for testing bascially.

Fris, you can't go wrong with arvixe. Best shared hosting i've had ever.

If you know how to install everything you need on a blank server (apache, mysql etc), you could also try DigitalOcean.com.
They offer SSD VPS with lots of memory and bandwidth, and fast SSD drives...
And you're billed per HOUR so it's ideal for testing new things... they are also DIRT CHEAP!!!
20GB SSD space + 512 DDR3 RAM + 1 2GHZ CPU = only $0,007/hour (or $5/month)

Just got a Certified Hosting Geek shared hosting for a bunch of smaller sites, they are great!

- They offered to move my sites from old host for free
- I've called on the phone and spoke to US techs and sales
- Live Chat support is fast and knowledgable
- Email support the same as Live Chat
- Hosting package was down for about 1/2hr the other day, but I'm so used to Network Solutions that this didn't phase me. I called sales and they even knew there was an issue.
- SSH access.
- CPanel
- They even sent me a Thank You card in the mail

as opposed to Network Solutions (Notwork Solutions)

- Tech support is a joke. Usually speak to someone from India who goes off a script and first thing is, 'we need to reset your permissions'.
- Constant latency issues and DDOS attacks. It's a waste of time to call Tech support about this, because they are unaware of any problems for about an hour or two after the fact.
- It's quicker to look on twitter for @netsolcares to see other people tweeting about problems to verify network issues.
- They suspended one of my unlimited hosting accounts without warning. After jumping thru hoops to speak to a so-called Tech Support Manager they said that I was sending spam emails. I don't have email forms on these sites nor do any email. They wanted to charge me to troubleshoot.
- When a hosting company has Go-Granny for their mascot(?) that should be a hint right there.

Sorry about the rant for Network Solutions, but they suck...

I would recommend to check out some of the web hosting listings here. Data center locations might be useful but not for everyone. What you would want is a reliable host that consistently have been stable over the years.

I have both an amerinoc vps and shared hosting at certified, so far recommend both (see previous post in this thread about certified).

Been with them since 2006 and no more, they change the tos as often as normal people change underwear. And they don't really allow adult sites that stores images,video etc, they want you to only store documents and such.

So if you are looking for a place to waste money servage is a good place to start. :1orglaugh

Hostgator shared hosting has cpanel.

servage.net has no adult policy. I read a suggestion here and tried them but ran into a problem because of that.

naked host is very good and I believe they use cpanel. most the good shared hosting I have are using direct admin.
