Can the IRS fuck me if I let someone sell using my affiliate account?

As an example, let's say the commission is $100 and I'm letting her have $80 of each sale
Then, will those cocksuckers try to steal money based on the whole $100 or the actual $20 profit??

I'm in Canada, but this should be the same anywhere. You'd want to make sure it's documented for your accounting who and how the $80 was paid to, then the tax liability should be transferred to them. For you, the $80 should be a write off as would wages or another business expense.

Your business will show an income of $100. It should then show a check going out for $80. Gives you a taxable income of $20.

Income less commissions/expenses = profit. Tax is on profit.

what he said. you have to get your friend's information like their tax id and company name and report that too

The IRS is not a court of law - the burden of proof is on you. As such, I would make sure there were some record of how much your friend is getting paid, otherwise they will assess the $100 as your earnings. If you end up paying your friend over $600 in a calendar year then you will also need to submit a W2 for them.

Under $600 NP over $600 1099. The payment of a commission needs to be reported.

Payment by invoice of some purchase could be an expense.
Payment of any compensation, like a commissions split would be a "cost of labor" and labor payments are w-2 or 1099.

They might disallow the deduction -- yes.

The above offered in conversation and not accounting advice -- ask a PA or CPA for a qualified opinion.

You don't have an accountant?

MrMaxwell 03-07-2013 01:26 PM

Do I have an accountant? Sure I'll just walk down my manicured lawn and stroll over to my white neighbors house after having my bentley waxed and talk to him

Anyway, I know to keep records but I'm not too sure of how much good that will do me since the IRS is a pack of lawless rapists and thieves

Is there any recourse if they "disallow the deduction"?

Deductions are disallowed only if you don't have proper documentation (business 101) or if you are being shady. Both instances are your fault not the IRS's.

Just send him a 1099 contract labor for his earnings, done... no biggie

Best if you give her a 1099 for the money you give her, or something to document the transaction. The IRS is EVIL.

Why would somebody use your affiliate account? It's not like you qualify for higher payouts anywhere you fucking loser.

I'm not sure how you file your taxes, but you should definitely check with an accountant. If letting your friend use your affiliate account bumps your total income into a higher tax bracket, you would have to bear the overall higher tax.

Why not 'refer' your friend to the affiliate program and cash in the referal fees?

I've never had to file taxes so I really hate to unless it's absolutely necessary
