Shared Hosting Needed
I need to offload my personal site, edgeprod.com, from my dedicated server.
If possible, I'd like SSH access, as I used edgeprod.com as a testing platform for various things that I'm working on. This is a silly thing that I probably shouldn't be doing anyway, but it's a convenience that I'd prefer to keep. I want to be able to also host a handful of other domains that I use primarily for e-mail purposes (meaning, I get e-mails at these domains), but this is not a strict requirement either. I currently have this domain on my dedicated Mojohost box, which is an absolutely rock-solid beast, but for the shared hosting of what is basically a vanity domain, I don't need anything perfect. Is there a specific company I should be eyeballing here? I don't think I've touched a shared host since the 1996 era, and I'm completely out of the loop. |
Reading good things about Amerinoc ... just doing a search of "Dreamhost" has taught me to avoid them like the plague.
Does Amerinoc have a presence here on GFY? |
You can click my sig and use coupon aff15off to get 15% off. its like 5-6 bucks a month for unlimited everything if you choose the basic linux webhosting. You have to pay in advance.
http://www.lunarpages.com/id/supzinccom thats my link. they dont pay me. but I do get an affiliate commission. I have used them for years and never had an issue. They are a large host mostly mainstream but does allow adult sites as well. |
i'd go with amerinoc. great support there. They post here from time to time, but more importantly, they answer emails generally within a few minutes.

Thanks to you and Supz. |
For shared I'd recommend the $15 per month Hostgator 'unlimited' package. I've had a shared account with them for years, it's fast and works well.
So as you know that I'm being honest, I'll also tell you what they're not good at. Never buy a domain through them, renewals don't work well. Also so as you know I'm not trying to sell, I'll tell you that their VPS is OK, the live support superb, but the VPS has never been as good as I would have expected given the high standard I have experienced on the shared. No ref link here, just honest advice, and this is from someone who's used a number of hosts over the years. Another point with Hostgator, make sure you use their live support, don't bother with emails and stuff. The customers who complain tend to be the ones who emailed, instead of using live support. |
how much? 15$/month could be waste of money for minimal requirements like that, I have various accounts on various hosts and some of them are 5$/month

I eventually expanded loads of stuff into the 'unlimited' package, each package is upgradable. |

We can do that at XenLayer.com starting at $4.95/mo for 5 GB space and 200 GB transfer on a rock solid CentOS machine. Webmin and Virtualmin control panels included (lots of features). I will add a bash shell if you hit me up, not a problem.
Here's a coupon: SPRING15%OFF - I can set you up so you can check it out right now, not a problem, hit me up. |

Anhosting.com $5.95/month but sometimes they have sales.
They are one of the biggest webhosts around. You may have heard of their dedicated product: 100tb.com I've been using anhosting for 5 years, hosting mainstream and adult. I've tried dream, hostgator - all of them. I wished the anhosting team managed their dedicated because it's one of the best I've ever experienced. Their limit is about 15k uniques/day with a wordpress blog (many pics and videos) before they complained. That's pretty darn good for shared hosting. They only complained about the cpu load, not the bandwidth. I was fine with 5gb/day. I could've pushed more. Quote:
