How many times a week does that American family get take out? I can see McDonald's, Burger King, pizza, Taco Bell and KFC. That can't be "typical" for a week.

Nice post, thnx |
India (with a steak every now and then) looks damn good to me.
|
This is really cool - opens your eyes. The American one is sad though - sad the state this place is in.
|
looks like the 'poorer' countries eat better aside from the guys eating grains or whatever out of the burlap sacks.
|
Everyone in Mali is happy as heck.
|
no fresh food for the americans
|
Yea that one picture from each country totally represents everyone.........
But yea, funny thing :) |
i see some fruit in the American family's photo :1orglaugh
the Canadian one looks like the typical North American family's food shopping, whoever did this wanted to make a point so went out and hand picked or worse the American family. i am sure if they put an ad in the paper for volunteer middle class families to take part and the American family they selected at random had bought a healthier assortment of groceries they've have kept picking families until they got one to match their preconceived notion. Looking at the 'Third World' families - I don't feel so bad, I see healthy food. The African ones, Chad and Mali look bleak. brings back memories of growing up, buying one week of groceries for a family is how i grew up. i'm not sure that's how it is these days, i'm single so wouldn't really know. my mom didn't drive until i was a teenager so it was one big grocery shopping outing a week for a family of 5 - my sisters and I would attack the good shit fast, potato chips and Hostess crap would last 2 days max, then 5 long days waiting. |
Im Italian brothers and sisters know how to do it right :)
|
seems like less developed countries eat much healthier.

|
interesting, and some pictures look very very "plastic"
|
I saw this a while back and it has stuck with me since.
Also, notice how many of those tables coke and cornflakes show up on. |
Mexicans love coca cola!
|
I actually have the book with all these pictures in it. It is a popular discussion piece when people come over and look through it.
It is almost as if the authors went out of their way to find the family in the USA with the worst eating habits. While a lot of American families eat like shit, it gives an impression that most Americans eat like that. I know probably a hundred middle class/upper class families and dont know anyone that eats that kind of crap on a daily basis. |
the germans seem to be alcoholics...

That Mexican family is full of shit.
They are all overweight. Nobody says.. ''oh man I'm gaining weight, I need to lay off all the vegetables and fruits''. |

My other issue is fast food/take out being included at all. Unless the thread title is misleading from what the original article was about, I don't consider take out "groceries." Groceries are what I go to the store to buy to cook later. You know, shit I buy at the grocery store. So Burger King, McDonald's, etc. aren't groceries, even though the title is a "week's worth of groceries." If it was "what a family eats for a week," then... |
No wonder China is the most poluting country in the world. Look at all that plastic wrappers/bags.
It's actually an interesting comparison list : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...xide_emissions |
