All great, but which is greatest of all?

Gotta vote for Pat...although that is based on when I used to work in the record biz back then.
Stevie & Nancy Wilson (Ann's sis - and MUCH better looking!) were also among rocker chicks I did promo stuff with. *note - you left out Joan Jett - She'd have gotten some votes, I'd bet. some pics i shot back then https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...042_4142_n.jpg https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...042_8288_n.jpg |

for me, none of them, Grace Slick (by Jefferson Airplane days) and Janis being the closest ones, but based on my personal musical taste, attitude and rebel spirit, I'd go with Patti Smith, Blondie and Siouxsie. In that order.
|
Nancy Wilson was hot back in the day

Grace Slick formerly of the Great Society (pre airplane/starship)
|
wouldnt know that one
|
Yeah, I knew there were ladies I left off the list when trying to pare it down. I didn't want the list to be too long. No disrespect to Joan, Chrissie, Debbie, Joan, Patti, Siouxsie, et al.

No Suzi Quatro?

Or Wendy James from Transvision Vamp (Okay, pushing into pop really BUT she is by far the sexiest woman who ever lived!)

Yeah, N Wilson was kick ass. She was hot looking and a great guitar player, too. I read that people used to ask if her guitar was plugged in - cuz they thought she was just holding it to look cute. The truth is, she can man handle a guitar. I saw Joan playing about 10-15 years ago. I was shocked that she was totally bald, stomping around the stage in combat boots & a wife beater, totally dyked out. I missed the cool Joan from the 70s with her shiny black hair and denim jacket. But whatever, she sounded great - she was never a great singer, IMO, but she rocked out and commanded the stage. The world would suck without hot rock chicks. |

Best singer, Wilson easily. Hottest combined with most hits and singing Stevie Nicks. I had such a crush on her as a kid.

Ann Wilson

+1 for Patti Smith But Janis is LEGEND as is Grace Slick the rest dont really deserve to be on the same list
|
|
Well Ann is certainly the BIGGEST. :xomunch
Nancy was always my favorite of the two. Lita Ford deserves at least a mention in this thread though http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2IJZkjPZa5.../lita_ford.jpg |

I have a hilarious JJ story, which is way to long to post here...but summing it up in a short version - my GF at the time, was all weirded out about me having to hang (working with) JJ at the time for 3 days. Finally got over it, and a month later JJ opened for the Police and I had front row seats for it. Needless to say, after JJ sang "Do You Wanna Touch Me..." pretty much directly at me, my GF was pissed off again! LOL! |

Stevie Nicks (Fleetwood Mac)
|
Janis all the way. :2 cents:
|
Lita Ford and Nancy Wilson. There were whole rocker chick bands like Vixen too. They had one hit anyway.

Very incomplete list. You left out Patti Smith, Blondie, Joan Jett to name a few.
From what you have though, it's a toss up between Grace Slick and Janis. |

To me, rock is an attitude rather than a music style, and other than Janis, all of them were "cheesy rock" or AOR, at least at some point of their careers. For example, The Runaways were real rockers. Joan Jett and Lita Ford were cheesy AOR. Just my humble opinion, of course. That's why I'd take Patti, Debbie, Siouxsie (and you can add Mo Tucker, Wendy O, Exene Cervenka and someone I forgot: Chrissie Hynde!): sheer attitude, less posse, breaking stereotypes and being themselves rather than a marketing developed image. Under this light, Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez and Kate Bush were more "rocker" than, say, Pat Benatar Anyway, it's pretty surprising there are so few chicks in rock from those years, I really thought there were more. PS: And I'll add a little known band from early 70s that was amazing: Fanny. And 2 "noobs": Kim Gordon and Kim Deal |
Thread wouldn't be complete without mentioning a few great Canadian rocker chicks...Lee Aaron, Headpins (Darby Mills) and Toronto (Holly Woods).
Saw Headpins and Toronto several times at Tony's Rock 'n Roll East (in Toronto) back in the day. :thumbsup http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/_/.../Lee+Aaron.jpg http://leeaaron.se/lee_darby_carlyle.jpg http://nyc3img.soundclick.com/20/ima...pg?version=219 |
