Microsoft Corp. admits the failure of its Windows 8 operating system

Guess it was time to admit it wasn't ready.

Fat Panda 05-07-2013 04:35 PM

Spunky 05-07-2013 04:36 PM

Agreed ...........

The tile shit really blows unless it is a touchpad and like..

shake 05-07-2013 04:39 PM

It always seems to take them a couple attempts to get a new OS right.

Rochard 05-07-2013 04:42 PM

My wife's new laptop came with win 8 and I see what they are doing. They are trying to force everyone to open up an account with M$ - They want everyone to have an email account with them (easy to access from the tiles screen) and then to tie that into the "store" (also easy to access from the tiles screen). This way M$ can bring in profit from selling stuff online... If M$ locks this down it will be freaking huge for them.

I think it's poorly done and I hate the new OS.

EddyTheDog 05-07-2013 04:42 PM

I thought they just announced an update by the end of the year - They normally do that don't they?

I don't think it is much more than an SP....

I think its more a matter of us not being ready for Windows 8. It's actually a pretty tight OS, but the tablet style interface is a turn off for even a die hard Win 7 fan like me.

TheSquealer 05-07-2013 04:49 PM

I was very dissapointted to see they were trying to turn my new notebook into a smart phone. Windows 8 is pure shit from start to finish.

Colmike9 05-07-2013 04:49 PM

They have the same good>shit pattern that Apple had for a while:

WinXP-good WinVista-crap Win7-good Win8-crap

OSX10.0-ok for a first release 10.1-crap 10.2-appology for 10.1 10.3-ok but could be better 10.4-good (I don't know how the others perform off hand..)

If you want an object lesson in how journalists can spin a story different ways, look no further than the coverage of Microsoft's plans to update Windows 8.

A front-page splash in the Financial Times screams the software giant is preparing for a humiliating U-turn on key aspects of its operating system as it grapples with customer discontent on a par with Coca-Cola's launch of New Coke 30 years ago - widely considered as one of the greatest marketing disasters of all time.

Meanwhile, the closely watched tech website AllThingsD merely observes Microsoft has confirmed rumours it will update its software later this year but so far has given away little about what the changes will be.

Other media coverage is somewhere between those extremes.

speaking of watching journalists spin stories.. that bbc article suggesting 'nothing outta the ordinary is happening', fails to mention Microsoft Blue

which, is listed on several different news sites over the past 24 hours..

They should call the current version Windows 8 vista. That way people can know this is the throw away version.

Theo 05-07-2013 10:08 PM

Poor execution, dont expect any major update anytime soon

The Heron 05-07-2013 10:19 PM

My gf bought a laptop with it and when I tried to help her set it up I couldn't figure out wtf was going on, half the time i was looking at annoying tiles the other half I had normal windows desktop. Don't get me started on trying to close a program or open shit, it's like they tried to hide obvious stuff!

Linux and Apple OS is the way to go. Winblows has been shitty for years.

KillerK 05-07-2013 10:48 PM

I've been running windows 8 for about 5 months, my only issue is that it forces certain apps to go full screen.

For those that say mac os, fuck you. It's not any better. I have 2 mac laptops and 2 imacs, and it runs the shit the same as my pc, except I spend A LOT more money on hardware.

clickhappy 05-07-2013 11:43 PM

I had to use an Apple once to help a friend with his website and it was fucking torture. I had No idea how to do anything on it. it wasn't intuitive at all, I couldnt right click anything, I couldnt save pics from an email, i couldnt even create a folder. And Ive been using computers for like 16 years now so I should be able to pick it up fast.
I ended up going home and getting my Windows 7 laptop and had all the work done in 20 minutes.

I have NO idea why people love Macs so much, I cant stand using them. but i do love my iphone.
Im super productive on my win 7 machine, but cant do shit on a mac.
plus that horrible mouse gives me pains in my hands

I still can't understand how Windows XP is rated good nowadays. Coming from NT or W2k it was slow bloated buggy crap at initial release. It wasn't untill many service packs later that it got stable and could be considered "ok".

FYI: Because there are two different versions of XP: NT 5.1 of 2001 (buggy shit) and NT 5.2 of 2005 (rockin cool).

pornguy 05-08-2013 07:07 AM

Sadly they wont fixt it and the next one will be just as bad.

dyna mo 05-08-2013 07:12 AM

windows 8 caused a 14% drop in pc sales.

i'm getting used to it on my laptop, the only prob i cannot address is the charms slider, it slides out all the time when i swipe the trackpad. annoying. i did get the metro screen better, but there is no reason for it.

same as android :)

LBBV 05-08-2013 07:56 AM

While Windows 3.1 was good, don't forget that Windows 3.0 was a disaster. I wouldn't be surprised to see Microsoft call the next revision "Windows 8.1"

MaDalton 05-08-2013 07:59 AM

i tried Win 8 and replaced it with Win 7

I dont want that app shop, i dont want an M$ account to be able to run Windows and i want my stuff the way and where it was since W2k basically

i use Windows to work and not to play around and i dont want to waste time learning new stuff that i dont need

and thats the same way admins in companies want it - imagine you run a few thousand workstations and have to teach all your users to work with a new system - nightmare

thats why most big companies still run XP

if M$ wants a consumer OS they need to return to 2 different systems like it was before Win 2K - or at least 2 different UIs

Klen 05-08-2013 09:07 AM

Btw is it normal for windows 7 to take 6 minutes to load?It takes that time since i bought my acer laptop and i find that totaly weird.I run linux on crappy computer compared to laptop and it takes 30 to 60 seconds to fully load.WIndows xp would probaly load at that speed too but problem is you cant buy windows xp anywhere,i would to get winxp pro 64 bit.Anyway when it comes to work i totaly ditched windows, but i keeping it still for games as running games on linux is toomuch hassle and since i have like 300 games bought i want to be able play them all normaly.I also called microsoft support can they send me a installation cd/dvd for windows since you dont get one with laptop and no wi need to bother with acer support which doesnt have local support only international.

Anyway,if someone have extra win xp 64 bit licence,i buying it,since i realy dont want to fuck around with acer support.

Yeah took me about an hour to get used to the tiled start menu, and now that I have it properly set up I think its pretty sweet.

I did have to get a Microsoft account to use the Xbox music app but other than that I haven't really needed it.

I fucking love the boot up speed

I hate that they make some programs open full screen but you can also change a lot of preferences to get rid of the full screen shit

2013 05-08-2013 10:39 AM

so can i get a refund?

The NT's & Win2k were not aimed at the home users but rather the business market.

Microsoft sold over 600 Million copies of Windows 7 at full price.
so 100 Mil copies of Windows 8, which were all sold at a much reduced rate, is a big step down for them.

leg4 05-08-2013 10:21 PM

I use Windows 8.... with Classic shell on my Laptop and Desktop.

I love it. Its solid, stable and fast.

Most of you people have never tried it.

But if you have Windows 7--- there is no reason to move to Windows 8.

I tried it, had it for 2 days, Hates it, very frustrating and I couldn't accomplish shit. Returned it to the store very disappointed. And Ive had almost every version of windows and they were all fine, except this one.

if you're a casual user who wants to shop or watch movies or chat on facebook its fine. But if you want to do actual work like multitask then its not user friendly at all.
