16 teams. USA took Bronze. Canada had the best team on roster but we beat them in the quarter finals.

Some players that played for team Canada.

Matt Duchene
Jordan Eberle
Claude Giroux
Taylor Hall
Andrew Ladd
Eric Staal
Steven Stamkos

Avalanche fan here, was not happy to see the US lose to the Swiss, but after that was happy to see Landy and the Swedes take gold.

We don't seem to get any ice hockey on tv over here these days.

Unless i'm looking at the wrong channels...

Mutt 05-20-2013 09:32 AM

Sad how the Sedins shrink under the pressure and physicality of the Stanley Cup playoffs but playing for Sweden they are fine. I'm a Buffalo Sabres fan so I was very happy to see Jhonas Enroth named the best goaltender in the tournament.

What amazed me is the Swiss, they were 9-0 going into the gold medal game - when and how did they get this good?

A ton of great players in this year's tournament, Canada did have a strong roster and the Russians even had Ovechkin. The US thumped the Russians 8-3, their worst defeat at a world championship.

It's going to be a fantastic Olympic tournament in Sochi this winter. Canada, Russia, US and Sweden - I'd rank their chances all equal for the gold medal. I'd pick the US, Jonathan Quick might be the best goaltender in the world right now.

Some rumors about a new possible coach for the Avalanche, the one and only Patrick Roy. I would love to see how Roy does behind a NHL bench

Oh and congrats to Sweden... Well done :thumbsup

how does that workout having a tourney like this right on top of the NHL playoffs?
Guessing a lot of players did not leave their NHL team playoff teams to be in there..

Have no idea who any of them are. Itīs a badly promoted sport outside of itīs key countries. UK and Spanish sites dont even seem to mention it happening.

We get curling on tv, or wind surfing.. minority sports, but nothing hockey.

Yea Only NHL players from the 14 teams not in play-off and the round 1 eliminated teams can play.

bronco67 05-20-2013 08:41 PM

I was definitely in a hockey news vacuum before this moment.

You nailed it. The best players are still in the Playoffs. But that goes for Sweden too.

Swedens Henrik Zetterberg has been busy owning Canada's Jonathan Toews the past couple games. Johan Franzen was also on Sweden's Olympic squad and has been playing very well too.

But back to Canada; Sidney Crosby sure would have looked good on their squad.

What? How come they organize this event at this moment then? If they had all the best players ot would be on another level, stupid move from hockey people?

Scorewise, yes. But it could be argued that their worst as in most shocking loss occured with their loss to France in this same tournament.

FRANCE!

The French didn't even make the medal round but I'm quite certain they feel like gold medal winners after that game.

Congrats to Sweden. And a huge congrats to the Swiss, they are really coming on. The way they played in this tournament kind of reminds me of the Russians in '72 when they showed up to the summit series and shocked the world by giving the mighty NHLers a huge run for their money. I'm looking forward to see what the Swiss can do at the Olympics. And a word to the wise; anyhone who takes them lightly there will very likely regret it.

PornDiscounts-V 05-21-2013 07:30 AM

So glad NHL doesn't play with international rules. Their rink is the size of a soccer field. Boring! And as was previously said, who scheduled this thing to coincide with the Stanley Cup playoffs? Who ever they are, they are a loser.

Hockey people could move dates a little so that all players could participate like it is in many sports including football, basketball. Whats their explanation?

alex.missyouth 05-21-2013 08:11 AM

Congratz to the champions! :thumbsup
