Roku streaming box

Hey guys, how do you like your Roku box, I got Roku3 recently, but I have some mixed emotions with the content streamed, pretty low quality, not even close to HD I am used to. Channel selection is weird ( except Smithsonian ). Not sure why people rave about ROKU so much, am I missing something?

Love them. Have one in almost every room.

My parents have one in every room of the house now.

Netflix, Amazon, Hulu and YouTube all look the same to me as they do on my HTPC.

The TVs in the kids room are big old tubes that would have been rendered useless without them.

I got the roku2 and it streams HQ without problems.
Even in my 120" protector screen it looks clear. There is even a few porn channels on it now

Use it for Netflix and Amazon Instant. It was under $100.00 and have not had any complaints whatsoever. Needs a hard recent once in a while but that's about it.

We have a Roku site www.filthfreakstv.com - it makes decent joins, nothing to retire on but it's ok.

I havent used my Roku since I got a G-Box. It's slightly bigger than the Roku, runs android apps and has full flash capable web browsing.

I got an apple TV from my employees as a gift a couple of years ago and really like that. The one thing I don't like is that it can't play .avi files, but I use it mostly for movies on itunes, hulu or netflix...

I see you are located in Europe -correct? Last time I checked, they said they are working on making more content available in Europe, but no ETA so far.

That thing looks interesting I assume it will play from network storage and or local drives does it have any limitations as to the codecs/containers it plays or is the only limit whatever the android app its running can play?

HelmutKohl 06-05-2013 11:46 AM

Watching CNN International and it is not even close to HD, more like old VHS tape, it is set up for 1080p and still pretty choppy. I guess since it is free, quality is low. Paid services seem better though.

Mine can play pretty much anything, in fact I haven't come across anything it won't play. It runs Plex, which connects to the Plex Media Server that runs on a dedicated HTPC.

I love my Roku does HQ for me had it on an old 39 inch tv was good but when I put it on the big flat screen was GREAT

campimp 06-05-2013 01:35 PM

bought two 3 months ago and cancelled my cable.... best decision ever made... just spend some time on google searching for best/hidden channels and you should be able to get anything you want on there... mine is very high quality

PiracyPitbull 06-05-2013 01:43 PM

Got 4 now. Streams with no issues every time unlike my Bluray with built in netflix which is prefers buffering rather than streaming lol.

The box supports HD, it is up to the channel as to whether they will broadcast their content in HD and the bandwidth of your connection as even channels that support HD like Netflix, will lower the quality if a fast enough connection is not detected.

As with candyflip it's played everything I've tried. It has 4 USB slots. Wi-Fi or ethernet.

It runs all of my media apps I'm used to on my phone.

They are awesome. I prefer it over the Roku, but love the Roku because even my 2 year old can use it.

Wanna share your favorite private channel here ;-) Anything better then this list ? http://streamfree.tv/apps/roku-priva...s/by-category/

I'm getting a Roku3 soon (harder in Canada) and then I'd be really interested in looking at how porn can be utilized. For business, not just for my own pleasure. ;)
