IRS spent 49 million on conferences?

http://news.yahoo.com/irs-officials-...153053184.html

Well they sure know how to party,

the IRS held 225 employee conferences from 2010 through 2012, at a total cost of $49 million, the report said.

And they are attacking conservative donors?

The president of another group, the National Organization for Marriage, said the IRS publicly disclosed confidential information about donors. George Eastman said he thought the IRS's release of that information was designed to intimidate contributors to the group ? which opposes same-sex marriage ? "to chill them from donating again."

EPA is being accused of the same?

Lets not sugar coat things, the IRS didn't spend shit... WE did!

Harmon 06-05-2013 09:08 AM

That works out to $21,777.78 per function.

That seems plausible. It's not like it 25 fat webmasters doing blow and banging ugly hookers at the VIP table in Vegas. This IRS thing that you speak of? From what I hear it's a pretty large operation with a lot of employees in their hierarchy.

The news is so misconstrued it's stupid. You look at the final figure and see a ridiculous amount of money and say, "WOW! The government is fucking us again..."

Look deeper.

Not to you personally, but come on now... $22k is shit

Fat Panda 06-05-2013 09:13 AM

I've been in the military, I never remember having 225 balls in 3 years

Military Bands? You mean the guys that are already in uniform?

Besides, the OP was about the IRS targeting political targets, you think they are doing this for a just reason or for political reasons? If for political reasons, who do you think sent the orders? Remember Watergate?

Sounds like a great deal to me!

On the surface this sounds like a huge amount of money. But factor in this is a two year period we are talking about, and also that the IRS has 106k employees. If you do the math, over the past two years the IRS has spent $462 per employee for training costs over two years. That breaks down to $231 in training costs per employee per year.

L-Pink 06-05-2013 10:02 AM

It's $217,000 per function. You guys are missing a zero.

I love how liberals contend it's ok because it's been going on for a while, well it's not ok, plain and simple.

The IRS got orders from Washington, that has been said already during this investigation. The IRS is a key factor in the new Obamacare which is set to tax, err ah fine people based on their income to pay for it, and they spend 4.1 million on a conference in San Diego

You are so funny with your stats.

The $4.1mil conference was in Anaheim. The one in San Diego was $1.2mil. I'm pulling this data from the link you gave us.

Then we have another news source that gives us completely different numbers:

Quote:

Spending on IRS conferences dropped substantially, from $37.6 million in the 2010 budget year to $6.2 million in 2011 and then to $4.9 million last year, according to the IRS.
The video you posted... Is unrelated. It cost the IRS $50k to produce three videos, including the one you posted.... Well, let's just say that anyone who took part in these three videos should be quartered and drawn.

The numbers are all over the place depending on the news source. Thing is to think of it this way, the IRS isn't keeping good records of it's spending, aren't they the ones that ask that of us?

When the GOP wastes $50 million tax dollars voting to repeal Obamacare 38 times, do you call it small government?

Obamacare is going to cost us 1.8 trillion in the first decade and has generated 20,000 pages of regulations and the OP is about the part of the government that will collect the money from the citizens to pay for it. According the CBO. http://washingtonexaminer.com/cbo-ob...rticle/2529655

I would rather spend the 50 million

TrafficTitan 06-05-2013 03:48 PM

Small potatoes compared to the US military. They've squandered Trillions of dollars. They spent 100 million dollars on airline tickets over 6 years which they never used and never bothered to try to refunds even though they were reimbursable. They lost billions in cold hard cash that was being shipped to Iraq. Here is a quote from Rumsfeld.

"'According to some estimates we cannot track $2.3 trillion in transactions,' Rumsfeld admitted. $2.3 trillion — that's $8,000 for every man, woman and child in America."

That is the GOP's alt plan. It was the Dole plan which later became Romney care to counter Clinton Care, actually its the heritage foundation's plan. Newt spoke about how everyone should have insurance because its taking personal responsibility.

But when Blackenstein did it. it's socialism lol.

Its not bullshit it was unfunded and all these worried about spending types all voted yes for it except Ron Paul. The right plays people, Dick Cheney said as VP deficits don't matter, Chris Christie says he doesnt care what it will cost to have an election only weeks before the one in Nov. When for its them they don't give a shit about spending.

I meant its bullshit that corporations are run only by republicans, like no democrat was business savvy enough to create and own a corporation? Or is that if democrat starts business and growsit to corporation level he immediately becomes republican? Like if SAC grew his business to a certain level he would become republican because corporations are automatically republican?

Your Original post was about the money spent on videos and parties ....

My '' liberal '' question was to wonder if this spending was new or if these parties and videos existed BEFORE the democrats, so as well under previous administration , and that '' conservatives '' did not care about that spending then...

Your retort was how awful it is to have focused on conservative groups, mainly the Tea Party movement.

I agree ( and that was not the subject of the OP, you ! ). It is unacceptable to target the tea party because it is a conservative group, as it would be unacceptable to target muslims, jews, christians because of their religion, or blacks, orientals because of their race, or gays because of their sexual orientation...

BUT THAT WAS NOT YOUR ORIGINAL POST, TO WHICH I ANSWERED....

I undestand that your are challenged, and that comprehension is not as easy for you as for others, but try to stay ... focused... :2 cents:

As long as not 100% of them are on food stamps there are still enough rich ones/corporate owners or CEO's.
So it is bullshit perception that all corporations are automatically owned or managed by republicans. Democrats are also business savvy and they also own or create corporations.

The only challenge I have is trying to understand what the fuck you are talking about, The op was not about Democrats and Republicans, you of course tried to make it that.

My posts in this thread have been about the IRS and it's current abuse of power and irresponsible use of funds.

You didn't quote anyone, you just tried to change the subject by saying it's ok because the republicans did it in the past.

I agree with this 100%. In government terms $50 million dollars is chump change. Put that into perspective. It's probably more money than everyone currently posting combined will pay in income taxes their entire lives.

If a private corporation wants to spend their money on junkets and parties it's their money. The IRS and all these wasteful government agencies can use emails to get their messages out to their employees.

Take a good look at the article he posted. It seems to be about the money the IRS spent at conventions, but is really focused just as much on the Tea Party scandal. If the article is about the money the IRS spent at conventions why is the article quoting someone from the Laurens County Tea Party about how long it took for them to have the IRS review them.
