Best video game music, ever?

I thought I'd take my BFF's thread one step further, since I enjoyed it so much.

I'll start with a classic from one of my favorite games: Super Castlevania IV.
This game had a soundtrack that was amazing and very diverse. It totally set the mood for fighting strange looking monsters and kicking some vampire ass!

note: the actual song isn't 15 minutes long, this just loops for 15 min.
After about 2 minutes, you get the idea...

Ecco the Dolphin for best chillout soundtrack... :pimp

My favorite is probably this one from a different Castlevania, Symphony of the Night. I've replayed the game quite a few times from since I was a kid.

i liked all the castlevania games music really.

dragon warrior was cool for the time, same with zelda.

Castlevania SOTN had great classical music but i would have to say when asked about video game music, this is what first comes to mind.

I knew I couldn't be the only one here, who thought the Castlevania series had
some of the best music. I love when developers put a strong emphasis on music and
Konami did, every time. Memorable tunes that I dont mind listening to, on loop.

Anything Final Fantasy.

And I've always loved this one:

I listen to Final Fantasy VGM, by the album! Metal Gear music is classic, too!

kurtov 06-05-2013 12:24 PM

Always like the MGS 1 ending theme

ilnjscb 06-05-2013 12:48 PM

Anything by Jeremy Soule,
Anything by Jim Dooley,
Halo 4 lots of others

SCSI Joe 06-05-2013 12:54 PM

I liked Fallout 3?s soundtrack.

?Butcher Pete? playing in the back ground while you're blowing shit up was a bit of a charge.

(can't post links yet :()

My favorite:
Revenge of Shinobi (1989) for Sega Genesis

youtube .com /watch?v=T033nUbhfz8

-This was awesome on so many levels. In retrospect, I appreciate the music even more after looking into the composer's (Yuzo Koshiro) body of work and contributions to video game music.

Honorable mention:
Devil's Crush (1990) for Turbo Grafx 16

youtube .com /watch?v=14W01V7At1A[/url]

-Epic Satanic pinball game with 3 tiers to the main board and a ton of bonus levels. The main theme-song was this hectic speed metal tune that added to the anxiety of trying to keep the game alive. Creeped me out back then.

I always end up singing the Katamari songs for weeks after I play it for a few hours.

MrBottomTooth 06-05-2013 04:31 PM

Dark wizard on the sega cd. Not too many games had full orchestral soundtrack back in the early 90s. One of the few games that were good on the sega cd. There's a bunch of cool tracks but the shit around 2:40 is real cool, and shit goes all conan the barbarian sounding around 8:11.

Not best but one I remember is Leliana's song from Dragon Age.

helterskelter808 06-05-2013 07:24 PM

Doom, clearly. Bobby Prince may be a filthy thief but I think I actually prefer his shit to the 'originals'.

It's basically the theme from The Exorcist (Mike Oldfield).

Edit: Sorry, I misunderstood. I thought your video was from a game too. Seems like it's from some 70's European horror soundtrack. :upsidedow That music is basically the theme from The Exorcist though.

The Secret of Monkey Island (1991)

Project X (1992):

nico-t 06-07-2013 05:08 AM

as for the best ever, it's batman on the gameboy, i played it back then almost only for the music.
Listen to these 2 all the way, it's great.

Commando on the C64 was another one with an extremely well music track.
