Is decent hosting affordable these days for a low level affiliate?

I want to put some galleries up with streaming video, of course galleries burn through a LOT of bandwidth and do pretty much fuck all in sales relative to the amount of traffic and transfer, so I was wondering if it's possible to get something cheap that's a little better than shared.... like, say, colo or some shit like that?

MrMaxwell 06-16-2013 01:08 AM

PS: Apparently VPS is what I meant when I thought I was talking about colo

Check out Amerinoc in sig. VPS plans starting from $9 per month.

yes, depends really how much, you can pickup a linode vps for $20 a month which is pretty cheap.

or even grab a box from fdcservers for 9$ a month.

linode is higher quality though

I tried Godaddy for one blog network and I broke it pretty quick, so don't do that...

Denny 06-16-2013 02:34 AM

www.m3server.com has decent VPS plans (fully managed).

Either too much traffic or too many blogs. They never told me exactly what the problem was, though, and I did email support and called them.

Might have been a blog that I made after smoking, which had about 50,000 posts... :upsidedow

You're better off with a cheap unmanaged server if you can do it.

But yes the profit margin is decreasing for being a paysite affiliate. I mentioned this here a couple days back and someone replied that you still make three times your costs. Yeah, but it used to be a 100 times plus you have to account for your time and risk. It's the price of dealing with free. I notice more free sites are resorting to popunders which is usually a sign of having a tough time monetizing otherwise.

If you manage yes. If they manage no.

Pornopat 06-17-2013 02:39 PM

I have very good experiences with certified hosting.
Very good and very cheap.

AndrewX 06-17-2013 02:59 PM

We would be happy to set you up at XenLayer.com - for $8.95/month you can get 1000 GB of monthly transfer, on an Apache or Nginx Debian server, with a control panel and root access. Full management comes with that, which includes tweaking your server and optimizing it for streaming video.

facialfreak 06-17-2013 03:34 PM

We have fully-managed VPS plans starting at $29.99 per month ... and we even now accept bitcoin at current rates (no premiums)

Fully Managed VPS hosting starting at $29.99

We would love the opportunity to earn your business! :thumbsup

sandman! 06-17-2013 03:49 PM

if you can manage a server yourself sure there are a ton of ways to do it cheap.

HomerSimpson 06-17-2013 03:50 PM

if you can manage it yourself then Digital Ocen is #1 since they offer SSD drives, fast cpu, lots of memory, and 1TB and above bandwidth, almost instant upgrades and really cheap pricing!!! They allow porn and you can install cPanel or DirectAdmin or whatever you like... Check them out ...

if you need managed go with NakedHosting / CertifiedHosting :thumbsup
- fully managed servers
- cPanel/WHM available
- free site migration
- real 24/7 support (no outsourced monkeys from india/philipines)
- rock solid network
- they are based in Las Vegas (where all the fun is + no hurricanes)

MrMaxwell 06-24-2013 03:24 PM

I've listed galleries on the hun many times with godaddy shared hosting... with a huge amount of content on them.. I never had a problem, but once they did make me stop using the server for backing up my HD ..... hahahaha

Mr. Andrew - how long have you been in business? Sounds nice

I love colo-cation.com

rowan 06-24-2013 08:56 PM

It's often a tossup between price and quality. Will paying twice as much the average for hosting net you twice as much profit? Doubtful. But will paying 10% less for slightly below average quality hosting decrease your revenue by the same amount, or more?

paffie 06-25-2013 01:14 AM

i'm using ramnode (one of their bigger plans), they do a GREAT job so far. Great price/quality ratio, and Nick (the owner) is a real cool guy who knows what he's talking about...

Unmanaged only, so you do have to know how to properly setup a server...
