In a word- no. I've read a lot of mafia non-fiction books over the years and none of them ever mention mafia bosses having regular professional- or even unprofessional- bodyguards around them 24/7 except in rare circumstances when there is an active "war" going on. Even then, it's just some tough guy in their crew.
You have to realize, most of these organized crime bosses are just street hoodlums with a bit of a hustle who have a bunch of like minded criminal friends and acquaintances around them kicking up money as tribute on schemes they run on their own. It's not like they think it through carefully and go hire former mercenaries or Israeli Secret Service trained experts to watch them day and night like a Fortune 100 CEO or Russian Oil Baron would.
