Don't upgrade to php 5.5 yet, as ioncube loaders are not available for php 5.5 yet.

correct, i think it had to do with people selling their copy, then reselling it over and over.

Yes, even the recently released IonCube 8.0. does not support PHP 5.5: http://www.ioncube.com/index.php
