anybody here playing rocksmith?.. (to learn guitar)?
 

figured i'd give it a whirl since it uses a real guitar, gotta say, blown away.

tried to learn guitar when i was a kid and didn't follow-through, my teacher was more on theory and i didn't teach me a song fast enough, which for me is important. this game makes practicing (which is it seems like what learning is) fun fun fun.

in a very short time i've learned 4 songs to 85+%, some fun guitar tricks like palm muting and sustains, how to read tabs, all kinds of stuffs. a few chords, learning both the rythym and the lead on the songs, i even switched over to bass mode and am learning the bass track on 1 of the songs using my 6 sting in bass emulation mode. i'm playing this game 3-4 hours total a day!

and the song choices on the game are fantastic, it's super fun learning songs i like because it literally takes me 100s & 100s & 10os of times practicing a song to learn it, although that cycle is decreasing slowly.

My buddy's kid learned to play using Rocksmith. He's pretty good too.

I have thought about grabbing a used one off of eBay and checking it out. Like you, I've taken lessons and they don't move quickly enough or keep it fun enough for me.

i've had to go watch some youtube videos that players post of themselves shredding a song to help me get past a roadblock, those kids are good! there's a forum as well and a lot of online resources with suggestions and such.

the game reads the skill level on the fly and adjusts the amount of notes coming accordingly, it does a super job at that and if things get overwhelming, there's a riff repeater and some arcade style games to help with technique.

i got a <$100 acoustic electric via ebay to see if i would even play the game, surprisingly this thing gets in tune and stays in tune for days, which is crucial because the game requires the guitar to be in-tune prior to playing each and every time a song rolls.

I couldn't get the hang of it. Something about looking at everything flipped upside down. It felt kind of like when I try to cut my own hair in the mirror.

Maybe it's because I already had some guitar chord knowledge.

Nope, but I've wanted to learn guitar for ages. It's the only bit missing out for me making my own tracks.

it seems like it's based on how tabs are learned, or at least how sites like tabspro software works. maybe it's vice-versa. but maybe i'm fortunate that i am entirely new.

oh, i think i saw a youtube video of a player with the view of the strings reversed but the guitar was still right-hand oriented, i haven't looked but there may be a settings change for that.

Is it any good if you plan to leard on a acoustic? I learned a bit when I was a teen BT never kept with it. I was thinking of picking up a acoustic guitar and getting back into it.

i think so, i'm having a blast learning on this acoustic, it has a simple little passive pickup in it so i can plug in to my computer and play the game with it, the game has all the needed guitar effects to emulate the sound of the sond you are learning. it does a really good job of making my acoustic sound similar, it's still an acoustic though. the other part is it plays louder acoustically than electric so the volume of the game needs to be turned up to hear the guitar playing in the game over the guitar's acoustic sounds.

i'd totally recommend it.
