Any safe place to park your cash and get a return?

Any safe place to park your cash and get a return? With the Fed buying up treasuries, I no longer see that being considered "cash" anymore. CD rates are still crap.

Any thoughts?

cardinalvices 08-13-2013 04:43 AM

Stocks are not the safest, but right choice usually works well.
Check for example Tesla Motors stocks for the last 6 months :)

seeandsee 08-13-2013 04:43 AM

Yeah some Switzerland bank will be a deal

Does look like a good buyout target or maybe a split if it stays at that high price for a while.

lezinterracial 08-13-2013 04:53 AM

Damn, I hate this zero interest rate policy. I don't think it will ever end.

slapass 08-13-2013 05:02 AM

ETF's for the country. Check out Germany EWG. You could get a few of them to disperse the risk. EWZ has a high return right now.

I had some of the ETF COW and sold it recently at a loss, Due to the fact crops looking good this year. Right after I sold it, Tyson says they are gonna stop using hormones in their cattle, Which may reduce the amount of meat produced.

i'm far from being an expert, but I like where silver is at right now.. It's dirt cheap, been trending down for a while now and I don't seeing it staying that way long term.

With you on that! :2 cents::2 cents:

I love silver. I give silver bullion rounds to my nieces and nephews for birthdays and holidays. Wish I bought silver when I was kid instead of all those comic books.

Rochard 08-13-2013 08:50 AM

I've been investing into my local power company - PG&E - for decades now. Two things all of us need is power and food....

I've been enjoying soaking up some knowledge over at CanadianCouchPotato.com. There's some great advice in there.

They must love that lol

wehateporn 08-13-2013 10:04 AM

There are currently large-scare covert fertility reduction programs (e.g HPV vaccines) being carried out on unsuspecting females in Western nations. This means female fertility treatments are going to be booming in the next 5 to 15 years. Look into the companies who will be profiting from this and place your bets there. :2 cents:

arock10 08-13-2013 10:35 AM

there is no where "safe" to park your money and get a decent return

sorry

LOL, Yea, I get funny, unexcited looks. But they seem to get everything they want now.

slapass 08-14-2013 02:07 AM

I just sold some stock i had in a greenland ruby mine. Canada: TGX. I would stay away from gold and silver, they are still over valued by a lot of metrics. Otherwise money markets are it.

Comic books FTW! Key issues of high grade Golden and Silver Age books have consistently posted double digit annual gains.

TSLA is a good example of a short squeeze.

Odessum 09-15-2013 08:50 PM

i know it sounds bogus but...

Am active on some forums and everywhere i read the same question...

where to park some money ? where safe ? where I get some % ?

Been living and working more than 5 years in Odessa Ukraine...
so first time i saw this, I also said..."yeah right..."

Banks giving here on the local currency up to 15% intrest !
(big amounts even more)

Yeah, i know what you now will say...i did too...so i investigated...
it is really true, i can testify myself...

How come ? Ukraine was stroke hard by the crisis...long term credits are not anymore given by banks here...only short time, very expensive...= they can pay a lot % on deposit

Simple as that...

I 've been thinking to offer some Private Banking Services to other people than friends (who also very carefully started, but after few months...throw me more and more, so i needed to organize really good...)

My friends take a flat 10%/year (possibility to put 3 months / 6 months / 12 months)

Why ? They send me the money in us dollar or euro, which i have to change...(fees)
I do some administrative work and running around
End of period > have to change back in your curency (fees)
and finally send your money back...(fee)

Anyways...plusses >

- I have an offshore company with swiss bankaccount = totall disctretion
- Ukraine doesn't mind at all...
- sending back can be from our company, or a private person as you wish...

10% sure thing...just deposit, no risky stock or whatever...

Somebody interested ?
pm if so...

Responsible Americans who actually saved for their retirement and the good of the country are getting kicked in the face for their efforts.

You should tell that to comex who can't keep enough of it to fill physical demand orders. Also JP Morgan, Goldman and others who have been falsly driving down the price and preaching it's drop all the while they are buying as much as they can't get their hands on because they are the ones who oversold the paper that has to make good on those orders.

Sounds legit. Where do I send my money?

kane 09-16-2013 12:00 AM

You cold look into mutual funds that are mostly made up of blue chip and stable stocks/bonds/funds. It won't be sexy and it won't get you a huge return but you can likely get a decent, steady, stable return.

XXXtrailers 09-16-2013 12:04 AM

Ukraine is not safest place to place a money.
http://www.xe.com/currencycharts/?fr...o=USD&view=10Y
I wouldn't want to have deposit in local currency in 2008. Lol

But it's true. They have a huge %.

Odessum 09-16-2013 01:23 AM

just trying to be pro-active here...

eximb.com

= the only ukrainian bank which is garanteed by the government

Use google to translate the ukrainian to english, cause the english version doesn't have all info...

What i was saying is :

- I 've been making avarage 15% on savings ever since with that bank (4 years)
> always correct and had no shit whatever...

- because of the rediculous % back home, of course i proposed to some friends in my
homecountry...

- as I need to run and change and follow up, I just dealed with them about 10%

- friends told friends...and the snowball was running...

So when I read a question like this...I post my experience and possibility, that's all.

Greetz

dev777 09-16-2013 01:43 AM

short TSLA. safest bet.

XXXtrailers 09-16-2013 02:40 AM

Here is list of banks that garanteed by goverment(under 200 000 UAH = $25 000)
http://www.fg.gov.ua/members/stuff/

But main risk it's currency rates floating. You sent $25k for 8UAH/1USD = UAH 200k , but currency rate increase to 10UAH/1USD = $20k.
- $5k

You still can use this type of investing but you must be warned.

L-Pink 09-16-2013 02:42 AM

I think I say the word "safe" in the thread title.

I'm surprised no one has suggested Bitcoins. Either as a joke...........or seriously.

directfiesta 09-16-2013 04:45 AM

Rental properties .

With a proper purchase price , good tenants, your cashdown will bring you back from 9 to 15 % , and the risk is near to none .
