Is revshare still a good option for affiliate programs to offer?
For new paysites in particular, is it still worth it to offer revshare as part of the affiliate program or is it best to stick with pay per signup? No harm in offering both, is there?
I've been told that revshare is best for those who run camsites whereas pps is better for paysites. Is this the case? |
Here's how most look at it:
Some affiliates like PPS because they prefer their money all at once and/or don't trust Sponsers to payout on rebills. Some affiliates prefer the stability of revshare, opting for weekly/monthly payouts that can grow over time. And with a processer like CCBill the added advantage of combining payouts thereby avoiding minimum payouts for some Sponsers. So it's a choice. Is it still a good choice? Absolutely, for some. For my Program (CCBill) I prefer revshare as I don't want to play that PPS "game" (counting on rebills or crosssells/upsells to be profitable). Hope that was helpful. :) |
With revshare you might only get $4 or $8 per member per week as apposed to $40+ with PPS but there is a likelihood that member will continue to spend week after week after week.
It takes a while to cover the PPS spend but in the long term it's worth the wait. |
PPS is often preferred now with paysites because it provides compensation for revenue models where the affiliate gets nothing extra with revshare. It also eliminates some risk such as with the sponsor (or who they sell the program to with no notice) keeping the rebills due the affiliate for themselves.
Long ago revshare used to be different. No xsells No stage 1 email collection No member area upsells No leaks to other products It was thought the site would be around for many years to come The sponsor on revshare (also called a partnership program) genuinely only tried to make money by selling the site itself and they shared this revenue with the affiliate using a honest published percentage split. Revshare today is apples vs oranges when compared to what it meant in the past. When in doubt go revshare with those you trust PPS for those you don't. :) |
I've only ever used Revshare as an affiliate.

I won't touch a sponsor that doesn't offer revshare.

9 times out of 10 the affiliate makes more money on a PPS trial. Especially if it is free.

Completely depends on the product; then from there your own short vs. long term goals.
Know the product well enough to make your own risk/reward assessment of your traffic, the program and the health of the product. |
