Who are the greatest actors of our time?

What great actors come to mind for you. These are off the top of my head.

Tom Hanks
Denzel Washington
Daniel Day Lewis

I can't think of a film by any of these that I didn't like.

Wilsy 09-06-2013 07:17 AM

Tom Hanks as he plays a wide variety

Big, Green mile, Castaway, road to perdition, forrest gump

All completely different roles,

I had this argument with a friend recently and in the end they agreed too

Kenny B! 09-06-2013 07:18 AM

Leonardo Dicaprio, such an incredible range in his rolls.
Nicholson rocks.

I do love Pacino but he overacts way too much imo.

Choopa Phil 09-06-2013 07:19 AM

Morgan Freeman

RebelR 09-06-2013 07:21 AM

My vote goes to Gary Oldman, for the same reason that Wilsy acknowledged Tom Hanks. I think great actors are ones that are so immersed in a role that you don't really identify them with the actor. Which is one of the reason's I don't like Denzel Washington. He plays the same role in every single movie he's in.

J. Falcon 09-06-2013 07:23 AM

No way Tom Hanks is in that list. I would most definitely put Brad Pitt ahead of him.

Al Pacino
Robert Deniro
Jack Nicholson
Morgan Freeman

He really has grown into one of the top actors of our generation, very diverse range of acting roles and he nails everyone of them. Denzel Washinton is right up there as is, IMO, Will Smith, anything those two are in I'll go see without hesitation.

Choopa_Pardo 09-06-2013 07:36 AM

Daniel Day Lewis
Jack Nicholson
Clint Eastwood
Philip Seymour Hoffman
Paul Giamatti
Anthony Hopkins
Robert DeNiro (of old, not recently)
Paul Newman
Rip Torn
Gary Oldman

MaDalton 09-06-2013 07:37 AM

Edward Norton
John Malkovich
Brad Pitt (yes, i mean it)

I understand what you mean because that's exactly how I feel about Johnny Depp.

Was going to sat the same thing about Denzel, he is 100% of the time the cocky guy with a chip on his shoulder, would be that same guy if he were cast as Ghandi

Oldman, Hanks, absolutely, they ARE the role.

Pacino, Di Nero, Pitt, DiCapprio - There are roles they are PERFECT in, but things I think they have done poorly, and just for a paycheck.

MaDalton 09-06-2013 07:53 AM

Pitt did Fight Club, Benjamin Button and Burn After Reading - three totally different roles and i dare to say that he was brilliant in all of them

even though Benjamin Button was boring as fuck

That Depp becomes immersed in roles or that he plays the same role in every movie? Depp has some great performances when he's not busy being a muse for Tim Burton, but he certainly does have some of what I would say are type cast roles. Depp playing himself in the series "Life's Too Short" is hysterically funny though. And as campy as they were, his character Jack Sparrow in POTC is great, as was his performance in The Ninth Gate (great movie if you haven't seen it) Maybe that's Denzel's problem too. Need an uber serious black guy who's always quietly angry, to fill this role? ok.. Denzel it is.

Pitt was awesome in Kalifornia, as well as in True Romance. I still reference his line from that movie. "Hey! Get some beer and some cleaning products! "

And throw in Bryan Cranston...

Not much in the movies yet, but anyone who can play the Dad on Malcolm in the Middle and Mr. White on Breaking Bad believably is a hell of an actor.

Jay39 09-06-2013 12:06 PM

Chris Farley!

Then you must not have watched "Larry Crowne" lol..

Tom Hanks would be at the top of my list, but when I saw "Larry Crowne", I kept thinking with him and Julia Roberts it has to get better.. so I watched the whole thing..

I felt raped afterwards.. had to take a shower but no matter how hard I scrubbed, I could not wash the shame away..

Great move, what a cast! Christian Slater, Patricia Arquette, Dennis Hopper, Val Kilmer, Gary Oldman, Brad Pitt, Christopher Walken, Bronson Pinchot, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Rapaport, Saul Rubinek and James Gandolfini to name a few

VanDahl 09-07-2013 09:14 AM

Robert downey Jr. He has done a ton of stage work, which where real acting comes from. Movies are edited so anyone can look like a good actor. As far as women go. M. Streep of course.

Mutt 09-07-2013 09:22 AM

Shatner

...

ErectMedia 09-07-2013 09:24 AM
