Congrats to the Republicans

Good job - you tried blackmailing the President by threatening a government shutdown while trying to dismantle the Affordable Healthcare Act.... and you failed. The republicans backed themselves into a corner and will look like idiots no matter what.

Obamacare....

It's such a great plan that the democrats have given waivers to 1500 of their biggest contributing corporations, and unions.... And of course themselves. Because it's such a great plan that it will only apply to the rest of us, but not congress and their friends...

it's really painful to watch what happens right now

Anyone who doesn't think both sides carry the blame needs to have head checked. Its really pretty sad that this is the group of childish, selfish individuals we've voted for to run the country.

17% approval rating for the GOP and 37% approval rating for Democrats.

I think Chris Matthews said it best on Meet the Press this past Sunday. He said something like, you know that phrase throwing the baby out with the bathwater? Well congressional republicans are asking Obama to throw out the baby directly. It's not going to happen. It's his only legislative accomplishment and it's something that Democrats have been trying to do for generations and they're acting like he's supposed to just trash it in the name of compromise when they don't even have a plan to replace it. Nobody will blame him for that in the real world. They're asking too much.

I realize the German culture expects everything to be mandated but not everyone lives by that mindset.

Captain Kawaii 10-01-2013 12:06 PM

I'm moving to a country that has nationalized healthcare. My monthly cost is half of what the affordable care act provides.

How much does a full body MRI scan cost you? Cost your insurer? Me? $250.00
My friend in LA had one. Cost her $2500 plus paying into the deductible. BC of Cali.

How much does a 2 week stay for gastrointestinal surgery w/o complications cost you?
Me? About $4,000. Thats 14 days.

Doctors visit? Me? $30. No deductibles.
Meds? Almost free. You?

US citizens have been porked by both parties. US is a for profit nation. Next decades only getting "better", er, "worse", er....:error

The US is in :error needs :helpme

Thank you Edgar Kaiser and Richard Nixon for realizing you should be making money off the dead and dying.

The NAZI REPUBLICANS are protecting their MULTI-TRILLION Private Medical Industry at the expenses of shutting down a whole country. Both, Private Health Insurance companies and Pharmaceutical companies are involved in this Manipulation of a whole country in addition to the Massive Scam and Robbery...

It's pretty scary. But nothing new.

Just watch SICKO and you will understand everything.

And that is fine; I do not want to pay for something I will not use . . . I really don't want to pay for that same thing so that others can.

I can't think of any outgo in my budget that does that.

callista 10-01-2013 01:44 PM

I'm not sure which needs more considered thought:

1) The fact that the government has closed down due to their inner squabbles,

or

2) The fact they already paid to have signs printed up just for this event?

Umm Obamacare was written by the health insurance companies.

The sad thing here is that the republicans are much more concerned about "winning" then they are about what's good for the majority. They'd much rather have their "victory" rather then letting the Dems do their job. How patriotic of them.

Yes, because a bank loaned me the money so it is to protect them. If the home was paid for, I would likely drop it as I have never had a claim in 37 years of home ownership. Total waste of money but I could not afford to live here and pay cash for a home.

I sincerely hope you do not get sick ... and in need of treatment, then medication ...
You could lose your house ....

When I travel to Florida, tough I am covered by my '' free healthcare '', I take a supplemental insurrance ( about 40.00 for a month ) that covers me for all the crazy costs that are slapped on a bill in the USA ( a heart attack can run an easy 400K ).
I have assets in properties and cash, so I could lose a lot.

Again, stay healthy .

Under Obamacare I get fined if I don't get insurance. WTF is up with that? I do not go to doctors, why do I need insurance? If something happens I will deal with it. Insurance is a sucker's bet; you are betting something bad will happen, I am betting it won't.

Uhhhh... the whole idea is to provide insurance for people who cannot get insurance through their workplace. To try and exempt congress from getting insurance through their employer (federal government) is not the intention of the law. You're "exempt" when your employer provides your insurance.

Unions aren't against the law as a whole either. What union wants to completely abolish the law and stand with Republicans to defund it?

You're betting that nothing bad will happen to you between now and whatever malady takes you out later in life? Hilarious... unless you're immortal.

No you are betting that if some moron turns left in front of you on your scooter and yer laying in the middle of the road dying that even though you have no insurance society wont just stand there and watch you bleed to death...

Apparently I am a better rider than you if that is your reasoning for health insurance. Auto/bike insurance can cover injuries from accidents.

That's weird. Last I read, 46% of Americans do not want ObamaCare and only 36% of Americans do not want ACA.

On what planet is that a majority?

I have known many people that have had huge medical bills...hundreds of thousands of dollars...that did not have insurance...none of them lost their homes...or anything else. Most of them paid at the bill what theY felt they could afford and not necessarily what the hospital or doctors wanted to be paid...with out any legal problems. A few that...didn't even pay at the bill...had a lien put on their house. So I think that people losing their homes because of medical bills is pretty much pigshit.

mikesouth 10-01-2013 03:11 PM

Nit pick all you want bad dog it is what it is has nothing to do with riding...could be any expensive thing to treat like I said I would agree with you if society would simply let you die if you couldnt pay for the services but somewhere along the line we decided that life is valuable over all else and thus healthcare is a right...so soxciety...meaning all of us have to pay for that. You dont like it work to change it or go someplace where you feel more at home those are your only real options.....Im surprised you arent on medicare anyway prolly close if not in which case its a moot point for you.

Its just passed on to you in the form of higher premiums. You pay for sick uninsured people in some manner. And 60% of all bankruptcies have some affiliation with medical debt... that's a fact not some anecdote.

If I had a broken leg or arm, something like that, I'd have little choice . . . and I'd pay.

I certainly would not pay to find out if I had cancer or not; I would not go through that misery just to squeak out a couple more years.
