I put my best friend, an old brown mutt of 17 years to sleep Saturday morning. Hardest thing I have ever done.

But she went out like a rock star. Thursday and Friday she had painkillers, prime-rib, thinly sliced filet mignon, roast beef, buffalo burgers with gravy and a tub of vanilla ice cream.

Then Saturday morning she died of an overdose. Went out like a star.

Relentless 10-03-2013 07:34 AM

Sorry for your loss

Magnetron 10-03-2013 07:39 AM

Sounds like you took great care of her. 17 years is a long life, which I'm sure was lived to the fullest. Sorry for your loss.

bluebook18 10-03-2013 07:45 AM

damn sorry for your loss.

CDSmith 10-03-2013 07:46 AM

I'm right with you on that, having went through it in 2007.

My ole dog Sully was 17 yrs as well. Nearly 18 in fact. He still shows up in my dreams the odd night. Hopefully your girl does so for you as well. Sounds sappy but it's comforting. You wake up feeling like you just saw them again. I'm not kidding.

EddyTheDog 10-03-2013 07:47 AM

Seriously sorry to hear that - When Eddy (the real dog) has to go I will be inconsolable - She will have a plate of what ever I am eating - That's her favorite thing, even if its a salad:)...

Jay X Industry Jobs 10-03-2013 07:49 AM

My condolences, 17 years is a lifetime of memories. Sounds like you gave her all her favorites.

CaptainHowdy 10-03-2013 07:49 AM

Goodbye to your buddy ...

Sorry for your lost man, she was a beautiful creature. Putting down a family member is not easy. May she rest in peace.

well that sucks

pornguy 10-03-2013 07:59 AM

We did it once about 8 years ago and might have to do it to another in the next year. Really sucks as this one is My little girl. Been with us 13 years but she is getting stiff we believe she has cancer but have not been able to get it verified yet.

96ukssob 10-03-2013 08:07 AM

Sorry for your loss. :(

Losing a pet is never easy, but try to remember the good times and what they brought to your life. Animals (with the exception of fucking turtles!) are only here for a short time, but it's the hardest when we have to say good bye

DamianJ 10-03-2013 08:08 AM

Sorry for your loss. A pet dying fucking sucks.

PR_Glen 10-03-2013 08:11 AM

I have a 13 year old Lab that's on his way out. He has had tumors for a while now but he is happy and very active still so we have been just doing what we can to keep things that way. We know we can lose him any time now and it will be very hard so I can understand how tough these things can be so sorry to hear it.

Thats a good long life though. Some people get screwed with these things, had a friend recently who lost her champion flat coat retriever at only 6. Went from full speed to death bed in a matter of 3 days due to cancer in the stomach.

baddog 10-03-2013 08:15 AM

Condolences from Buddy and I.

Zuzana Designs 10-03-2013 08:16 AM

Sorry for your loss. Never an easy thing losing a family member.

Harmon 10-03-2013 08:16 AM

Sorry to hear it man. I have a dog when I was a kid that made it to almost 18.... beagle mixed with something else. My dog died in it's sleep however because I didn't have it in me to have her put down. I feel your pain.

We had it cremated and she now sites in an urn in my living room with a small reminder plaque with her "name" coupled with my last name and her birth/death date. It's was only a couple of hundred dollars at the time but well worth it.

Peace, brother.

Phoenix 10-03-2013 08:46 AM

Sorry to hear that. Your dog lived a long happy life. You kept her healthy and happy for 17 years...that is amazing for dogs. Best wishes.

MaDalton 10-03-2013 08:51 AM

RIP

she's in dog heaven now with an unlimited supply of sausages and cats to chase ;)

seeandsee 10-03-2013 08:52 AM

_Richard_ 10-03-2013 08:53 AM

PR_Phil 10-03-2013 08:53 AM

Sorry for your loss L-Pink...I had to put down my Beagle named Stanley last year when he started having trouble breathing and heart problems...I went through thousands of dollars trying to save my best companion's life but there wasn't anything I could do and I felt terrible.

I have my dog's ashes in a little box that I keep on a mini shrine in the living room, it's got his favorite stuffed animals and a butterfinger (because on Halloween he ended up getting into the candy bag and woofed down some butterfingers :) ).

So I feel for you man...dogs really are a man's best friend!

Markul 10-03-2013 08:56 AM

Sorry to hear that man.

I can relate. December 17, 2011 we had to put my boy to sleep. No doubt that it was mentally one of the most difficult things I've ever had to do in my life. :disgust Just writing this response is tearing at me.

He dined like a king on his last day too.

Sorry for your loss.
RIP little rock star.

yuu.design 10-03-2013 09:05 AM

so sorry :(

L-Pink 10-03-2013 09:06 AM

Thanks guys.

AsianDivaGirlsWebDude 10-03-2013 09:21 AM

My condolences L-Pink on the loss of your friend.

Excuse me, but my little cat intends to chase big dogs in pet heaven.

Not really, she was a peaceful hippy cat in life, and I am sure she is equally pleasant to be around in the afterlife.

Glad to know I am not the only one that keeps an urn with the cremated ashes of a beloved pet.

in times like these, a good laugh can help to turn around the sad.

i'm gonna bawl like a little girl when my guy goes. it's just a fact of having a pet. they live 12-16 years, we live up to 90's. it's never easy, but just something we accept and trade for all the years that they live for us and love us for not asking.

sorry to hear about your doggie.

e

CyberHustler 10-03-2013 09:37 AM

Just had to do the same to my best friend in April. Still not over it. It fucking sucks bro.

Scott McD 10-03-2013 09:48 AM

Losing a pet is quite simply horrible. They really are just one of the family.

I cried for days last year when we lost our cat last year. And i have no problem admitting to anyone how much it affects me.

Sorry once again for your loss...

Best-In-BC 10-03-2013 09:49 AM

My condolence is extended. A couple of years ago I had to put one of my dogs down as she developed a cancer and the vet did all that he could to no avail. I did all that I could for her until she was clearly suffering.

I go into the wilderness alot and I always took her and my Jack Russell with me and she just loved it. I took her into the wilderness with me...one last time...to one of her favorite spots...along with a pistol. I let her walk and sniff around and enjoy herself but she quickly grew tired and lay down. I talked to her a bit while petting her then I put a bullet in her head. She died instantly. I buried her in a deep grave and put sulfer in it to keep wild animals from digging her up. For a year or more I went out to her grave...periodically...to make sure that she had not been disturbed...she never was.

I still desperately miss her and I am sure that I will until the day I die. I hope that you do not suffer the loss as hard as I did and still do.

Choopa_Pardo 10-03-2013 10:30 AM

Never forget that you gave that dog a fantastic life, and that she loved you more than anything else on this earth. Putting down a pet is never easy but always remember the good times. I still think back on my best friend Max and only recall the happy moments we had.

Spunky 10-03-2013 10:30 AM

My condolences on your loss.RIP :(

VikingMan 10-03-2013 10:31 AM

Your dog was lucky to have such a loving human to hang out with for 17 years.

Choopa_Pardo 10-03-2013 10:52 AM

Sounds like her last hours were fucking fantastic too. We should all be so lucky to go out on top like that.

BFT3K 10-03-2013 11:30 AM

Sorry for your loss.

Losing a pet is one of the hardest, and most emotional things a person can experience.

exactly - i still don't understand why humans should not be allowed to go the same way (except a few countries)

Far-L 10-03-2013 11:37 AM

Sorry for your loss. I think I actually cried more when my dog died than when my parents passed. As terrible as that sounds, the bonds with our pets are so deeply emotional, it is hard to explain.

J. Falcon 10-03-2013 11:46 AM

Very sorry to hear that, my condolences.

Sarah_Jayne 10-03-2013 11:53 AM

I'm sorry for your loss.

Losing my pets has been so painful that I am not sure when I will be ready to have another one. Anybody who says they aren't family simply doesn't understand.

Death leaves a heartache no one can heal,
love leaves a memory no one can steal.

I am truly sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss. I'm going to be a wreck when I have to go through this with my brown buddy.

Dead 10-03-2013 01:50 PM

Worst pain I will ever feel or felt...I buried my Dad with less tears in my eye then losing my pup of my early life. Strange how connected we can become to a life that lives for one thing, our love and attention.
So sorry you just experienced the hardest thing I have ever experienced in my life time, that shit hurts like a mother fucker and takes time to find peace with it. Here is to the best memories you can keep of a wonderful mutt that found you to love! :drinkup

Well done m8, good choice for the end!

MrMaxwell 10-03-2013 03:52 PM

Though I generally hate dogs, there are some who really get to me.
I will never forget little elcamino. He was a crazy little fuck with his cigarette smoking and vodka drinking. Hahaha. He use to get drunk with me and watch poker on television. That dog LOVED getting drunk. We would wander around and fall over and laugh his ass off and just lay around with me looking dazed. I sure loved that little bastad!! He got diabeties and died :(

I have a picture of him somewhere! I will miss him forever. I believe that he made it to November of 2006 or so
