Just came back from GRAVITY and all I can say is WOW!!! (No Spoilers)

Just came back from Gravity and all I can say is WOW!

What a freakin' fantastic movie. So well done on so many levels:

- SCIENCE (wow!): Lots of attention to detail and physics and surprise - NO SOUND in space!

- Gorgeous. Best Visual Effects I've ever seen in any more, ever. You might think that everything has been done in CG, but you'd be wrong. This movie truly pushes the envelope in what's possible.

- Great story. Simple and to the point. This could be a remake of MAROONED but with alot more excitement.

- Great Acting. I was wondering why they cast Sandra Bullock in a spacey sci-fi but after watching it and wondering how they could have pulled this off, I now know why. She's brilliant.

- Great 3D! Finally a Post-converted 3D movie that doesn't have sucky 3D. Very well done.

- See it in IMAX! I can't stress this enough. Find the biggest IMAX screen in your city to watch it on. If you see it on a smaller screen or wait for TV you'll be missing a heck of alot.

- You would think that having no sound in space would make the movie boring. Nope! They came up with a very clever way to make space explosions dramatic without the sound of explosions. Oh and by the way, this movie is freakin' LOUD.

Love it love it love it. Going back to see it again this week.

bronco67 10-06-2013 08:32 PM

You should check out that director's last movie Children of Men. I remember when I saw that I thought it was fantastic.

Far-L 10-06-2013 08:42 PM

Everything I have read and heard said this is a one of kind movie that completely sets a new standard - many saying it stands as one of the greatest movies of all time. Looking forward to it but I am going to see it on Super 70mm Cinerama which I personally find more pleasantly and thrillingly immersing than Imax.

AllAboutCams 10-06-2013 08:46 PM

Ill go see it but not in 3d

AllAboutCams 10-07-2013 06:18 AM

Just seen it very good

I was thinking it was going to be nothing as soon as i sat down i was gripping the chair, its really intense and very realistic.

seeandsee 10-07-2013 06:36 AM

This is my next 3d movie to watch this week

Phoenix 10-07-2013 06:39 AM

wow excited to see this now..i thought it was going to suck based on commercials

MKA 10-07-2013 06:59 AM

I got almost sick watching this movie in 3d IMAX. All the turning around, space shit. Needed to puke almost.

NinjaSteve 10-07-2013 07:07 AM

Saw the trailer, looked like a space version of Castaway but with talking. Thought it would be lame, but I plan to watch it because I want to bang Sandra Bullock. Then I heard good reviews, but still... c'mon... really? But this review (with no spoilers thank you) and the feedback is realistic so I'm going to check it out with an open mind (and still want to bang the Bullock).

To top it off, I saw this Japanese space Schick commercial today. SOLD!

I know what you're saying because I've come to hate 3D movies now, especially 2D converted to 3D like this one, Star Trek into Darkness, Man of Steel etc. I wanted to see Gravity and had no choice but to see it in 3D but I was not disappointed. They seemed to have fixed all the problems with 3D in this movie in that it was:

- Not darker than it should have been
- Very clear (no blurry edges, no funny dark patches)
- Good use of 3D. Things "felt" like they were in the right place, and things really seem to fly right at me (I wanted to duck, twice!)

I hate 3D but they did it right with this movie.

I know!!! That was so freakin' cool. I don't think I've seen such freedom of camera movement before. The best effect of this happens near the beginning, when the camera "catches up" and "follows" Sandra Bullock's character as she's on the Arm. Just freaking amazing.

It's closer to a remake of "Marooned", the space flick of the 60's, but alot more exciting.

I love this review on Rotten Tomatoes:

It's an overwhelming physical experience -- a challenge to the senses that engages every kind of dread.

Gulp!

The gravity here is just sick for revenge
It's like my lungs are filled with chains . . .
The sky seems so low,
It hasn't moved this slow
Since the virgins, since the virgins went dancing for the rain

You know the stars in the night
They're like the holes in the cave
Like the ceiling of a bombed-out church
But gravity blocks my screams
It's like an enemy's dreams
My guardians quit
They quit before they started their search

I want a world without gravity
It could be just what I need
I'd watch the stars move close
I'd watch the earth recede

I wanna drift above the borders against my will
I wanna sleep where the angels don't pass
But now my lips are blue
Gravity does it to you
It's like they're pressed against a mirrored glass

I want my will and capability to meet inside the region
Where this gravity don't mean a thing
It's where the angels break through . . .
It's where they bring it to you
It's where silence, silence can teach me to sing

I wanna lay beneath these sheets and never turn blue
I wanna hold you, hold you tight but never touch
I want some pure, pure white; hey, we can nod all night
We can do it without thinking too much

I want the dilettantes and parvenues to choke on my wrists
They think the pearls I wear are pills
I want their gravity to shatter . . . but it really doesn't matter
I got something in my eye that kills!

Wicked, wicked, wicked, wicked gravity . . .
Wicked, wicked, wicked, wicked gravity . . .
Wicked, wicked, wicked, wicked.
Looking forward to this one... :eyecrazy

Children of Men is great! I can't wait to go see Gravity as well. It looks amazing and is getting fantastic reviews.

Will check this out.

When I saw the preview at the theater I had no desire to sit through a movie about someone stuck in space. Sounded like the movie about the divers who got stranded at sea (2 hours of bobbing in the ocean between shark attacks)...

But hearing all the raves I may go....

Wow are you sure you saw the same movie?

SLIGHT SPOiLER ALERT

The movie is at first a journey to get from 1 place to the other, but its also an emotional journey for Sandra Bullocks character. (If you don't know what emotional journey she has to face, you should watch the movie again).

If you're the director of the movie, you need to cast someone that can act with her face partially hidden most of the time by a space helmet, and her body hidden most of the time by her space suit. I'm no expert but I'm guessing this is really hard to do.

Maybe George Clooney phones it in, who knows. His character in Gravity is completely calm and cool but then again the filmmakers draw attention to this fact when he talks about how good looking he is. They also touch on the fact that his character is very experienced, while Sandra's character has only about 6 months experience.

Anyway, good acting from Clooney, GREAT acting from Bullock.

Plus there's the Alien-esq strip down scene. Wow she looks great.

By the way for anyone interested there is a really good review at

that doesn't give away any spoilers.
