German Court Orders Release Of 20,000 Names Of Online Porn-Watchers
 

A German court has released the names and addresses of about 20,000 people whose IP addresses were detected on porn website Redtube in a copyright infringement case, NBC News reports.

First and foremost: how did U+C acquire the names and addresses of those who had viewed the streams? Streaming viewers don?t leave IP addresses exposed like P2P sharers do. Redtube denied turning over any user data. The theory arose that U+C had misled the courts by presenting Youtube as a ?swap meet,? i.e., a file sharing site. Obviously, Redtube is not in the business of file sharing and under German law, those viewing streams ? even if the streams themselves are infringing ? cannot be held liable for infringement. The other theory mooted was that U+C was utilizing some sort of malware to trap IP addresses, but no evidence has surfaced that this is the case. (Although, it should be pointed out that Google indicates Redtube ?might be hacked.?)
The other thing of interest in this case is that Red Tube itself issued a press release to tell users it had their back........

As i said in the other thread related to this a week or two ago - getting the ips is easy as pie...no hacking or malware required. Buy ad spot with another name/company/whatever, and track what hits your iframes/javascripts and what the referring url is...

It seems that they bought german geo traffic via trafficholder, sent it to a domain called retdube.net and redirected that traffic to subpages containing their videos. Posted the link in the other thread.

Busted. Blind redirect from randomtubess -> trafficholder ($3/k) -> movfile.net (save ip's) -> redtube. Guys ended up in redtube without even want or figure it. But increased the viewer count on redtube video page... there Konrad could have purchased a banner to track ip's back on redtube end, but seems unnecessary even.

(german) users avoid free streaming porn sites which might be a chance for the traditional sites

Or:

(at least german) porn surfers losing more trust in adult sites than they did before.

The lawyers told that more tube sites and their german users will be affected soon.

right.Investigation is running now by a public prosecutor's office. Some layers found a way to trick court by calling redtube a sharingcommunity or torrentsite not a streaming site.

Maybe Fabian will have the last laugh after all...what if he knew where the German investigation was going (since he is German, and was at the center of all of the intrigue), so he sells out his stake in Manwin (barely covering his original 100m "investment"), and then in turn sells out his backstabbing backers at MindGeek by showing the authorities how to bring down the house of cards. :eyecrazy
