45 New Domain Extensions Just Added
.com is still king, but as more and more extensions get added I have to imagine the value of ALL names will be reduced, at least on some level...
https://newtlds.networksolutions.com/Home/Browse I wonder how Google will address this. Thoughts? |
I don't know if I like this at all. It seems that large portions of the online economy could be significantly impacted by this.
|
there are already dozens of other extensions and hundreds of cc tld's...i think these new ones will flop like basically all other extensions have.
|
I just worry that as every conceivable TLD is created it wont be long before we are directly or indirectly corralled into the "appropriate" TLD.
|
I have sold off most of my valuable .com domains so am not biased.
I think these new extensions will have a big effect long term but not short term. As the new generation comes to age they will be think and act differently then all the crusty old fuckers who got online in the 90's. They will be more open to visiting domains with various extensions. So I think it is prudent to grab some of these new domains. |
bought nude.camera :)
|
I wonder how long till every porn.newextension will be taken :)
|
Are these available now or just preorder? Don't see them listed on other registrars. There are a couple that have some cool play on words combination.
|
It looks like they're going for over $200 each at the moment, through Network Solutions.
|
I was going through the process to register sex.academy when shit went haywire. When I tried again it was no longer available, so I figure Network Solutions is sniping the queries.

What if I don?t get awarded the domain name I requested?
Domain requests that are rejected by the Registry for any reason will still be charged an application fee ($145) that will NOT be refunded to you. You will however be refunded the registration fee ($60) charged during pre-registration if you are not awarded the requested domain name. https://newtlds.networksolutions.com/PreRegister |
gosh this thing with new tlds is just so stupid really. i think with the way they are going you really will be able to get your own name .tld (ie: jason.smith domain)
...or create your own tld at some point. fucking retarded imho |

I don't understand this. The ONLY registrar that seems to be offering these new extensions is Network Solutions.
If you request any other name through them, they instantly approve or reject your request, but for these names they are charging for the POSSIBILITY that you may or may not get it? How can this be? I would say it smells like a scam, but Network Solutions is not known to be scammy. Who knows... |

Outside of a few country specific extensions, I swear most of these domains must only sell to people trying to protect their .com's
|
top keywords will probably bring some sales and then get hyped to help produce more sales but guessing most will flop, think .web will do the best out of the new extensions :2 cents:
|
i was talking to network solutions on the phone and they told me the app fee for .guru domains is like $350 and its nonrefundable even if you don't get "approved" whatever that process consist of. would be nice to own pussy.guru but not at that price.

Proof people will stand in line to get ripped off.:disgust

I just got off the phone with someone at GoDaddy. They say that over 900 new extensions will be rolling out within the next year or so... http://www.godaddy.com/tlds/gtld.aspx?ci=85337
The belief here is that over time, internet extensions will help categorize/compartmentalize the web, to make searches more relevant. Content will be just as important, so if you were to register tits.construction (for example), it will likely NOT make any sense, as you will be in a category that was intended for construction-related businesses, so your ranking will likely suck, as it is not in sync with the intended purpose. Network Solutions just rolled out 45 of the upcoming 900+ but more are on the way. A few of these 45 are currently exclusive to Network Solutions, but not all of them, and once it all shakes up, they will likely ALL be available through ALL registrars. ALL domain names are slated to go up in cost in the near future, with an average annual cost to be around $20 or so, to include .com and other extensions that currently exist, so if you have a number of names that you want to use for years to come, and you can afford to extend them for 10 years at today's best rates, it may make sense to do so. Anyway, that's all the info I've been able to get so far. If you learn more, please add it here for all of the GFY peeps! |
Who remembers when .mobi was going to take over the world? These are garbage extensions just like most cctld's.
|
One more thing...
Each new extension is owned by an independent company that coughed up the $200,000 to secure the extension for resale. Because of this, the costs for these names are not consistent, as the owners set the general pricing schemes. |

pricing in general will be retarded want to buy a .luxury domain? $12,500 please also some will use .tv pricing so renewals will cost thousands for what they consider premium. its cash grab. while there will be some cool names out of it but majority is just trash that makes no sense. |

However, the actual base cost the registrars pay to verisign for .com is $7.95 and that will not change till at least 2019. Versign renewed a 6-year contract w/ the US Dept. of Commerce at the end of 2012 and the contract does not allow any price increase through its current term. I would be very surprised if Go Daddy or many other registrars start marking up the cost of .com to $20+ any time soon. But hey, I guess anything could happen. |
I agree with you that .com is king, companies may take the .com out of their logo but you won't see many migrating to .co/.me/.etc anytime soon
domainincite.com/7992-o-co-loses-61-of-its-traffic-to-o-com Google will listen to the masses, I remember reading last year that programmers were excited about how they treated .io "Google treats some ccTLDs (such as .tv, .me, etc.) as gTLDs, as we've found that users and webmasters frequently see these more generic than country-targeted. Here is a list of those ccTLDs (note that this list may change over time)." .ad .as .bz .cc .cd .co .dj .fm .io .la .me .ms .nu .sc .sr .su .tv .tk .ws Quote:

It will dilute the market and in a few years the significance of a dot com extension will be much less because new generations will not care about an address on the net anymore than they do an area code for their phone.
|
porn.directory is still showing as available if anybody wants it.
|
Just a little factoid:
According to whoisaccess.info, each day there are between 100,000 and 150,000 new domains registered. For what it's worth... |

Another little factoid:
According to GoDaddy, they will be rolling out OVER 900 NEW EXTENSIONS over the next two years. Again, for what it's worth... __________________ |
