How Important is the Domain Name to Your Adult Site and/or Biz?

I'm keen to get some perspective from members on the importance of domains in adult. I haven't run any adult sites myself. Dabbled once with a dating site. Have also bought and sold some adult domains, including on this forum. Helped Evan in putting together a deal on the last HuntingMoon auction which was a $6k sale, but I have the impression that was a bit of an outlier. I could be wrong. Many more domains change hands that go unreported than those that are.

In mainstream biz, commercial keyword domains for high-margin products and services typically command higher $ sales than something like, e.g. - YourMomsBlog.com, for obvious reasons.

But I have no idea how much bling people are making on adult websites, or how deep the opportunities are. I can tell you that adult PPC on parked domains is shit :)

I don't mean to lead the discussion into the finer points of adult webmastering and how to make money, but rather as a preface to my question, just how important is the domain name to you?

Do you consider the domain important for traffic generation? SEO? Branding? All of the above? Other aspects? Do you consider to buy premium domains, or just look for whatever is available and not spend more than registration fee? If the former, what's the most you've ever spent on a domain? Do you think it helped you make more money in the long run vs. if you had built on a less than quality domain? Would love to see some thoughts on this topic for discussion.

If you know anything about marketing and branding you can do so with just about any good domain name, within reason.

Obviously shorter words or domains that make some sense are going to do better than jibberish but overall if you have a good website and know how to market/brand it you should be golden like the showers.

But could you do better with a better domain? What you say is true, but on the other hand, to spend a little more up front on premium domain could mean spending less time, effort and money on marketing and branding down the road.

If your looking to work long time a good name + domain name helps for branding

it's important to have some nice and easy to remember name, it's hard to find if you want only ".com" and cost nice $$$.

This is spot on. Our flag ship domain Yanks.com is short and easy to remember but makes very little sense for a female masturbation site. Branding is everything.

That domain would make good sense to me as a handjob site. yank, stroke, tug, pull ... all things you can do with a wienie :)
