Sunday Guitar (recording) Thread
(Sorry Minte, stole your '__day Guitar Thread' idea haha)
What do you guys/gals prefer for guitar recording? Sm57? Fav DAW? Fav virtual racks? Fav positioning or room treatments? What about studio monitors? I am seriously considering these (though considered a tad bit hi-fi, seems to have best guitar reproduction in comparison I've watched/heard): http://vintageking.com/media/catalog...yamaha_hs8.jpg http://usa.yamaha.com/products/music...s8/?mode=model About 700 a pair. I hate having to buy shit twice, so I like getting as many opinions on audio-gear as I can. I'm almost OCD in mys election of gear... wait.. not almost.. I totally AM Here's what I have lined up http://www.long-mcquade.com/products...ad_Capture.htm http://www.long-mcquade.com/products...ynamic_Mic.htm http://www.long-mcquade.com/products...Switch_Box.htm So I can split signal to HS8s and my non-pass through sub for a little tiny bit of bottom end when just listening to music (and for a good headphone jack to use my neutral headphones on at night) Saw these monitors, too http://www.long-mcquade.com/products...o_Monitors.htm and they get good reviews on link below but the hs8 just seems more natural in the guitars to me but these are just so much smoother in the top end. $500 a pair Good studio monitor comparison http://www.sonicsense.com/blog/studi...n#.Uv_kHx3NuHt I have a nice sealed-off attic area beside my loft here that is 100% echo free. I think running amp out there, door closed, mic'ed and cranked will be a neat experiment to try. This should be fun.. |
I can't comment re: the recording equipment, I don't have enough experience but I can share which studio monitors I purchased.
After doing quite a bit of research and listening, I went with Behringer 2031a, they get stellar reviews which I found to be true and they are also priced well. I recommend them https://www.google.com/search?q=Behr...r+2031a+review |
I'm on my way out to dinner but will be back to this thread later. I did do some recording today with the LPgt w/the p90's.

I'm not coming up with anything re: the transformers blowing, when I googled it, but the first link was Quote:
Those are $9000 monitors. Not trying to sell you anything, I'm just stoked I got em for $400) and I'm cranking em right now! |

The best but only monitors I have ever used are the behringer truth active ones. At $250 each they are pretty affordable.

The more I look up on these Thuth speakers, the more I like it. Im actualyl shocked, in side-by-sdes with good mics used for youtube comparisons, the thruths really do compare to the B&W 802 - and that says a lot considering the B&W have much more driver and much more cabinet.
Long n Mcquade doesn't have any in stock, hopefully they are re-ordering. I really wanna hear them vs an hs8 (sub + x2 monitors) |
Mackie HR824 are the absolute best, used by most high end recording studios to date.
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/deta...FfFDMgod91IACw Mackie HR824mk2 $699.99 EACH |
