I'm owed money by Jay / Jason Miller, former owner of Mech Templates and am looking to get hold of him. Hired him for a design, paid Jan 21, has not been delivered.

He is not responding to emails or skype and has just sold his business:

He sold the company on 14th I think. I paid him on 11th and luckily download the template straight away. we agreed for a deal to edit the template but didn't paid him but he was unresponsive. he is gone now..

I hope you didn't pay him for the design. If you haven't and he comes back I recommend you don't, he's untrustworthy with design. If you have paid him I'd try for a refund ASAP.

When was the last time you spoke to him? I last spoke to him April 17th before he went AWOL

I leave you offline messages on skype, and emails hoping for an update after a project is 3 months late. You don't need to be online at the same time as me to let me know whats going on. Thats the whole point of email, and being able to leave messages.

You're online now clearly, don't see you on skype. I do wonder how often that happens as last week I was home and online on skype nearly 24/7... had skype app running on my phone and everything yet no updates from you...

After you totally screwed me, you agreed the project would be finished by the end of the month (3 months late I'd like to emphasize again) and I've had 0 updates. I can't give you feedback on a design I haven't seen, and now there is no time. I expected to be going over the final, tiny details with 2 days left, not left in the dark.

Clearly not. Offline messages and emails are only visible when their senders are online, the term 'offline messages' is clearly just a misnomer.

As you're currently online (can see your status) I'm keen to check out the progress you've made on any of the design pages or other things I commissioned you for. Literally any of them.

I was originally quoted 3 weeks for design, coding and integration, LOL!

It past my safe deadline and my 'srsly last minute' deadline that it all needed to be done by, and now it's so late it's almost worth it. I can't even do anything with the design for a few months as theres too much going on now which is why I had a deadline I made clear.

He says you agreed to a May 1st date. Is that the case? Because of so, he has until May 1st before he's "late". I haven't seen you dispute this claim yet, so I'm led to believe there's some truth to it.

Under what circumstances did you extend the deadline to May 1st? For a discount? Out of desperation because you had already been fucked? I understand being over a barrel and agreeing to disagreeable terms under duress, and don't hold that against you.

Just to be clear, though: the ORIGINAL deadline in the contract was the end of .. January?

See below. He has till May 1 to give me a design that we where meant to design together. Seeing as thats a day away and I've had nearly no input even if delivered on time it's not going to be what I paid for, as there is no time for me to make any input at all.

I extended the deadline to April 30th on April the 7th after already having extended it two times. No discount. I did this because I clearly wasn't going to get a refund, and I'd already missed both the events I needed this for, so even though it was / is now practically useless to me now I figured I'd already paid for it, and I thought I may as well try to get something for the money I lost.
And it is money lost- this was commissioned for an event, which has now been missed, hence the deadline I set that was 2 months ago.

Extending a deadline negates the meaning of "deadline." In the future, ditch and move on. With a budget already spent that is often difficult to do, but when time is of the essence, it's the best decision.

Yeah, once the deadline was missed I gave up, I didn't have the budget to do anything else so I focused on other ways to make the event it was needed for work. So shitty. Appreciate the advice, thanks.

I will just add that I have done a fair amount of work for Jay over the past year, he always paid his invoices, often with a bonus. I don't think he is dishonest. Hopefully he'll put things right.

When did he sell the company? It sounds like he sold the company and said fuck it to the work he promised you. He probably figured it was the new owner's shit to deal with or something. Fucking scum bag.
