Water billing is fucked no matter where you go.

Our local city bills for water - and then bases the sewage fees on the water - not taking into account that not all water flows into the sewer system (water used for gardening, washing cars in driveway, etc.).

So every time I wash my car I'm not only paying for the water I use (understandably), but also for that same amount in sewage - despite the fact it absorbs into the ground and doesn't even reach the city's sewer system.

Municipalities try and fuck over the residents at every opportunity - I can't blame people for doing the same in return sometimes.

Put in a well and septic tank. Let us know how fun and affordable that is. :winkwink:

Detroit has been fucked since the riots of the 1960's and all the whites left and most of the tax base. The whole region rises and fall on the auto industry, which takes a shit every decade or so.......................

Well, they could charge double for the water and 0 for sewage. Would you be happy that you don;t have to pay for sewage? Just look at the bottom line :)
By the way - in some countries it is illegal to wash your car and drain chemicals (shampoo etc) into the bare ground. So not too bad for environment if you have to pay for that in a form of "sewage" :winkwink:

Been there/done that - and I'd much prefer well water and septic system.

Actually, they've increased water rates drastically since putting in 'smart meters' throughout the city. After the smart meters went in - everyone figured out better ways of conserving water...and since consumption went down the water dept. had to jack the prices to compensate for the loss in revenue.

Ask your water company to install a second meter to measure water usage for irrigation, swimming pools and other outdoor use. Cost me about $600 but as much of watering i do for my yard it will pay for itself in about 2 years.
