I agree. The only reason Alcohol is my 'drug of choice', is because pot is illegal.

I haven't partaken in the herb in as long as I can remember, hell, I forgot what it felt like to be high. At least 15 years. I drink about 3-4 times a month, need my Scotch. But if they were to ever put them both in front of me and ask, "Which one should be illegal and which one legal?" - my answer would clearly be marijuana as legal and alcohol illegal. I've seen so many lives ruined by alcohol it's unreal. I've never seen a single life destroyed by marijuana. And I've NEVER had someone who was high hand me a joint and say, "Hold my joint and watch this shit..."

Me either - my dad was a major drunk, and I don't just mean he drank, I mean he was an extremely violent drunk and it was what I grew up with, so drinking isn't something I even have a single little bit of tolerance for - I have a brother the same way - and I stay as far away as I can - the last time I was around my dad, he was in a drunken rage and trying to make me lose my baby I was carrying - (pregnant with) and I swore that was all I was going to deal with. To this very day, just the mere smell of it makes me sick to my stomach.

However, I was told by more than a handful of Drs that pot would help my heart condition - and it has, but it's very hard to raise kids NOT to when you are doing it - and the "I do it for my health" doesn't exactly wash - so I just don't do it, but you can bet your ass if it was legal, I would - it's the only thing known that keeps my heart rate in check where it should be!

And like you, I've never taken a beating within an inch of my life from anyone high, but have more than a few times from drunks!

And for the record, my husband doesn't drink either, we share feelings on this one. lol

Everyone reacts differently to substances. When I drink I get very mellow and am the nicest guy to be around. I crack jokes and don't have a violent bone in my body. I actually do everything I can to avoid fighting if I'm drunk. When I'm sober...I'm kind of a prick.

Now marijuana, the last several times I smoked, I had full blown panic attacks. That's the reason I quit. They say that marijuana can be used to treat anxiety. If that's true, then I must have gotten a hold of some bad shit. There are so many strands and variations of it out, that's why I hope they make it legal so you know exactly what you're getting and the medicinal benefit. Not just calling your dealer and getting whatever he/she could get their hands on that week. :2 cents:

In college we would study at all you can eat buffets. We'd bring in our books, eat, study, go out to the car, toke up --- wash, rinse, repeat all day. The only people that ever chased us out was this Chinese buffet off S. Dixie Hwy. If I could understand Chinese, they probably wasn't saying very nice things to/about us. :1orglaugh

though, its a bit of a medical issue on my end - I have insomnia, can't really get a decent sleep for last 5 years :-/ weed did help on occasions I could try it out rare as they were, but had no all the bloody side effects of common sleeping pills/etc...

Tried everything, got resistant to most sleeping stuff, even alcohol - does not work. Weed did, go figure.

If I'm sat in my house drinking, and causing no harm, trouble or problems than other to my own health, and the police knock on my door for a random reason... OK, I'm 'drunk' (Perhaps) but as long as I am not running up and down the road etc... I'm good to go...

Same scenario - I'm smoking pot - totally mellowed out, watching TV... Police say they can smell pot, (Which hey probably would) and I'm off to the police station... However, I'm not operating a grow farm.. Just indulging...

yeah I hear you mate. I do everything to excess, and cannabis fucked me up mentally far quicker than the drink did - I knocked that shit on the head when I was 19 or so. I get where people say about stoners not hurting anyone else, it's a very good point. I only really became violent regularly during my last few years of drinking, though any visit to any bar on any day of the week will quickly show that there's plenty of people who aren't hard drinkers though the alcohol just turns them into assholes.

Seen way too many long term stoners to believe an ounce of this "it doesn't affect you mentally at all, and expands the mind" crap is an across the board situation. Sure, it doesn't affect a minority that way, but is far from the standard.

Anyway... to those who can indulge in whatever in moderation, good on you, and enjoy whatever it is that is your particular 'poison' :thumbsup

I know a guy who smokes weed almost constantly, and he's 200 lb solid muscle and has fathered 6 kids.

I know a guy who drink drives all the time, and has never caused an accident. So it must be safe.

I also know a guy who used to be funny, witty, sharp, and energised. He has smoked for 25 years, and is an incoherent mumbling idiot these days.

I guess a sample of one isn't really a clear indicator of positives and/or negatives. Who woulda thought :upsidedow
