the 2 most important rock & roll songs in the history of rock&roll

And IMO, the 2 most influential bands in rock, the impact these 2 songs had on guitar and drums, and more even, is significant.

Both standards (and awesome songs).
I prefer the English rockers over American ones anyway.

You should start a 'Most Influential' thread focusing on songs and riffs that changed music.

Smoke On The Water
Stairway To Heaven
Freebird

The list would be extremely long. LOL

Hey Jude
Heroes

Narrowing it down to two...pretty tough.
I'll get back to you on that. LOL!
{My years of working in the music business has me overthinking it now}

Almost every band I listen to now sounds like Black Sabbath. Some of them actually do Sabbath better than Sabbath.

I'd have to throw in Smells Like Teen Spirit, if you want to talk turning points in the history of rock.

From the wiki:

"You Really Got Me" was an early hit song built around power chords (perfect fifths and octaves),[5] and heavily influenced later rock musicians, particularly in the sub-genres heavy metal and punk rock.[2] American musicologist Robert Walser wrote that it is "the first hit song built around power chords"[5] while critic Denise Sullivan of Allmusic writes, "'You Really Got Me' remains a blueprint song in the hard rock and heavy metal arsenal."[6]
