People PAYING to watch streams of people playing games ??
Ok now, I'm not much into this whole U-stream and Twitch, but my kids have been watching people play games and they say that many people GIVE them donations and I've even seen donation notifications flash across on the screen with some upwards of $100+ and some have subscriptions that you have to pay $5 per month to follow. Am I just out of the loop here, but why would people pay to just watch someone play ?? I guess if they're entertaining, but I'd rather just play the game myself, but it seems to be the new fad.
Now this brings me up to the point of the adult market. Why aren't there a bunch of lingerie wearing gamer girls playing games and cashing in on this or are there ??? It just seems like it'd be a huge opportunity to make some big money. |
in a sense it's like reality TV since its not only about gaming, but the discussions they have etc
|
my nephew watches stuff like that, though what people are watching is the game itself, so not a camera on people xyz in front of a tv with the game playing on that.
Though that's a great idea if it hasn't already been done, to incorporate lingerie/nude gamer girls somehow |

Today's young gamers are a different breed. Does it allow you to do anything except watch someone play and have text/voice communication?
I can see the attraction of it though. A lot of players would be interested, for example, in watching their favorite game being played through the eyes of an 'uber wicked' player :D, would allow them an unprecedented view on technique and strategy etc. I don't know how many times I've played a new game and said "I'll never be able to beat this damn game on 'heroic' or 'insanity' levels"... then this comes along that lets you actually see someone do it in real time. Is that basically how it works? |
Lots of Speedrunners make some good money (some have made thousands in donations just in a few hours of gaming)

There's some girls who stream games and wear lowcut shirts with lots of cleavage. They talk in a cutesy voice etc. They know what they're doing. Trying to talk my wife into this since she's a heavy mmo gamer.

From what I see on online sportsbooks people can even wager on the winning teams playing in certain video game tournaments now.

I can understand few bucks, but for any bigger money, the question is, who pays it? Aren't we living hard economic times? At least 500 bucks donations won't come from burger flipping. Although for example tipping cam girls is no new invention or strippers neither, but the sums are not that big and I am quite sure the money is theirs. |

Many of the streamers seek donations that they then use part of for prizes to give away (normally games) some use it to better their streaming setup.
As for some hot babe playing and making money from it, despite what was said above in this thread, don't kid yourselves, those girls who are gaming with a larger cam running, wearing low cut tops or tank tops (tank tops are very popular lol) have hundreds of viewers per stream and most are NOT there for the game. I've made a few bucks streaming here and there, and I was always shocked (at first) I actually asked a few times WHY?? and the replies were the same "You are funny as hell and I love watching you" So I guess in a way it's like paying for ___________ <-- Insert entertainment venue of your choice. -Loki- |
they have full movies of video game play on youtube. some are like 4 hours

I've payed to have access to HD streams for some of the pro League of Legends games.
I see it as contributing to the scene and just like any other huge sports spectacle, I get to see my favorite athletes and some of the best players in the world do what they do. |
I have a friend in Taiwan and he says it is totally normal for them

A family friend's 15 year old son makes about 3k/mo doing this with Call Of Duty and a couple others. I referred them to an IT friend locally to optimize their home network, etc., so he could stream more efficiently / comfortably about a year back.

Nothing unusual in that,i would pay for such thing as well tho i dont play mainstream games anyway.I used to be some sort of half pro gamer when i was in elementary school.I say "half"since there was no income of it,but traveling cost were covered.

If you guys are interested in seeing one of these "gamur gurls" with low cut tanks and overhead cams do the pandering to virgins shit very well, go to twitch and see if you can spot Kaceytron streaming League of Legends. Girl has that shit down to a science.
Regularly gets around 10k viewers. You'll know you're at the right stream when you see the brazzers logo above her webcam portrait. |
Ive dabbled in this market.
Some people make upwards of a 1k a day in donations. A subscription payment is split between twitch and the streamer. So they also get a monthly chunk from Twitch. This is a career for a lot of entertaining gamers. Some are watched for skill. Some are watched for personality. Some feed the viewers gifts and prizes for being around. A nice dream for some young up n' comers. If youre good at gaming and youre charismatic... you have the chance to make big bucks doing basically, shit all. |
Been doing twitch for lil over a years now i dont really think the traffic you gain there would convert to any kind of adult but mainstream though convert like hot cakes at least it use to before i stop in December. Its all about how you interact with your followers, if you are serious about this i think a good way to break the ice for a new product would be sponsoring some regular streamers and most of them dont even ask much a mouse pad would freaking make their day lol anyways my :2 cents:

I started up a Youtube gaming channel about a month ago.
Mostly lets plays of new or retro games. It's really fun now, but hopefully I get lucky and will get enough views that I could monetize it and have a mainstream cash flow coming. May look into joining a gaming site, or even making one and recruiting other lets play gamers down the road. I've been thinking of doing some twitch streaming as well, probably will try that soon too. |

Also many game producing and operating companies pay to these streamers, either with hard cash or with some good ingame stuff for giving it as prises to the watchers. Sometimes both. This is signifficant part of brand promotion.

Here's an article from the other day about the Swedish kid with 29 MILLION subscribers to his feeds... Maker Studios has just released an iPhone app for him -
http://www.theguardian.com/technolog...studios-iphone He has had more than 3 BILLION views to his channel I don't get it, but there's big money in it, Disney just bought Maker not long ago. |
It's like sports. You buy your favorite's team merchandise and support them.
Same way gaming people support their favorite players with donations, etc. |
|
At first glance I would have said yes it makes no sense but then neither does proffessional sorts....do explain how this is any different than watching baseball/football/baskeball/golf/fishing/boxing/soccer/whatever

One girl back in 2005 received $5000 because she said she wanted it for a deposit on a new car. She got it and bought the car she wanted, and all he said he wanted in return were naked photos of her on her car so of course she was happy to please. |
i don't get it either, but i'll take the subscribers when I get them!
