Now here is a cop that is more concerned with being a citizen than being a cop! :)

This guy is awesome.... and he works in my neighborhood. If only more cops would stand up for the rights of citizens instead of turning a blind eye to the abuses of their fellow officers, then more people would recognize that "most cops are good".

Way to go bud!!! I salute you.

There was an episode of The Wire where a young cop was complaining to an older cop about the neighborhood and that all of the residents were trash and nobody helped him out when it was in their best interest. The older cop went into a speech about how proper policing is not about keeping people down. It's about knowing the area, making friends, making good contacts, helping people out, and improving the community. It is not about beatings, batons, hiding out in a car. It's about walking the streets. Knowing your neighbors. Improving their lives, and in turn, they improve yours. All of these skills are what salespeople need. Entrepreneurs need. Cops need the same thing, they just don't seem to realize it.

Outstanding post, and utterly true.

Couldn't have said it better.

you are downtown miami? were here also...

Good for him. Bravo. I will follow this case on Google Alerts.

There is certainly a war coming. Ferguson was only partially about race. The police actions, and things that were caught on tape were very impactful to all citizens.

This is the beginning of something big that has been brewing for a long time. The government is getting too big for it's own britches and they are trampling the rights of the citizens.

People will only tolerate so much.

I saw a stat today that said there are 21,000 residents in Ferguson -- and there were 32,000 arrest warrants issued last year. How is that even possible?

There's a scam the local government is running by raking in money for fines from every bullshit charge they can drum up. And who do you think the victims of all that extra policing will be?

Interesting video.

It's unfortunate that he stands to potentially lose his career over this - but I admire his fortitude and principles.

The world could use a lot more guys who think this way.

Police (civil servants) have to come to the realization that with social media and everyone carrying cellphones/cameras these days - they can no longer get away with their abuse of the law-abiding public.

This isn't to label all cops bad, of course. But there are certainly a large number of bad apples in the barrel - and we're long overdue for an overhaul.

Sadly this attitude seems to have died with the last generation of cops that have retired or are approaching retirement, at least in my area.

ok that's 1 decent cop, who they are most likely going to sling out - which kinda says it all about all the others :winkwink: And also: I kinda liked what he had to say... Right up until he came out with 'turn off the TV - turn off the sports'. no no no no no!

DAMNMAN 08-28-2014 07:33 PM

One stand up dude!!!! They don't want guys like him on the force. He's done.
Shows you how bad it really is out there.

He said the war is coming, he may be right. But, if more cops would be upstanding and honest to their oath to the constitution there would be no war coming.

Yeah, it's a bummer..
