Dangers of using Linkedin (competitors)

I am reluctant to use it. You give up your buyers, you give up your suppliers (especially important in some industries and pretty important in most).

Anybody had the same sentiment?

1000% - For another key project that serves both adult and mainstream industry clients keeping our client list close to our hearts (chests) has served us well.

However it is a great tool to use to learn who in your or someone else's circle knows who. I once needed to pitch a idea to investors, and learned via LinkedIn that my own wife was only 1 connection away from a key C level person at Microsoft. That little bit of important information allowed a phone call to be made which led to an opportunity to talk to that very person.

You hate them? You don't use them to drive traffic to your websites? Or you just hate the social networks that you use for personal things?

It's 2014. Most of my traffic comes from social networks all around the world. Because fuck Google..

Most actions you take have the dichotomy of positive and negative consequences. In the case of LinkedIn, my network is almost completely comprised of my betters -- people who are more successful than me, smarter than me, etc. Engaging with these individuals is more profitable than worrying that someone else will also engage.

Haha. For me, GFY is more about blowing off steam and trolling than anything else. :thumbsup

At the end of the day a contact is just that, a contact. It all goes down to personal connection and ability to utilize it

Our biggest issue with linkedin are headhunters.

They browse and contact all our top staff on a daily basis, but our headhunters do the same, so I guess the balance is there.
Today I think that the work environment and happiness of our staff became the biggest factors of retention.

So now we are using Linkedin at our advantage.

Regarding exposing your business relations on linkedin, again its a question of balances.
If you compete with someone and have the same partners in common, there is lots of chance that this competitor could become a partner too.

Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer.

Have a great week end all.

LinkedIn is the only professional network I've used. It's great to connect with other professionals.

I dont use linkedin simply because it dont see point of it,i mean is'nt it like facebook where people add people for friends random people and never make any communication with them ?

Yes linkedin tend to get tons of connection requests and then silence forever..... save a few good leads.

mineistaken 10-12-2014 09:32 AM

Example: You are wholesaler/distributor of something that you import and sell. If your clients would see your connections (those few you buy from) they would contact them directly.
This is random example, since not everybody understands where I am coming from.
I am not talking about all the situations, merely saying that this could be harmful for many situations (especially sales relates, manufacturing-sales, brokering of any type and so on).
