Photoshop for Mac Only Cloud Based?

I've had a PC version of Photoshop since forever. Never went with cloud based... always stuck to the full version on my PC. Now I'm looking for a new downloadable version for Mac and can't find anything but the cloud subscriptions.

1 - Is there a downloadable version available?

2 - Is the cloud version good? Seems like they would be holding your work hostage if you store it in a cloud based software application....

Any useful advice is appreciated :pimp

I don't even have an Adobe Creative Suite subscription, but it is my understanding that it is downloadable software. You install it locally on your PC or Mac. It checks the validity of your license online periodically however, so if you don't keep up your subscription the software will stop functioning. The apps don't operate over the internet per se. That would be unfeasible. Your video, photo and miscellaneous files aren't stored in the cloud. They'll still be on your local hard drives where they started.

I have the Adobe CC. One installation on a PC, one installation on a Mac. I have the full suite, it's around $50 a month. I believe the Photoshop/Lightroom package is $10 a month. They no longer sell standalone copies.

You are not required to store your files in the cloud. I don't. They are all local.

I hate the way software is headed...

I have the CC version on my mac. The app is still installed to your machine as normal, just the subscriptions are managed in the cloud. Your work isnt saved in the cloud somewhere or anything, it just like normal PS.

Q. Are ?Creative Cloud? applications Web-based applications, or are they on my computer like regular applications?
A. They are NOT Web-based apps. The programs work just like they always did, right on your computer, but instead of installing them from a CD or DVD disc (like the ?old days?), you download any ones you want from Adobe?s Creative Cloud site. If you?re a Mac user and have used the Mac App store to download software, it?s pretty much like that. Personally, I think the name, ?Creative Cloud? makes it sound ?Cloud-based? when it?s really not, but I guess calling it ?Creative Download? wasn?t a great name either.

Thanks UniqueD

They ought to make that much clearer on their payment page.

Correct, and I am a student so I only pay $19.95 per month.
