Farewell to the torrents?

The Pirate Bay was taken offline yesterday after a raid by Swedish police. Officers investigating the decade-old file-sharing portal's alleged copyright infringements targeted a server room in Stockholm, seizing several servers and computers. The site only reappeared hours later, at a new address hosted in Costa Rica, and with regular 500 internal server error codes. At present, searching or browsing for torrents on the new site is impossible.

So I think we probably could say bye-bye to the torrents?

TeenCat 12-10-2014 01:55 AM

every other torrent site out there is alive, so not sure what you mean? the same with file sharing services :2 cents:

It doesn't work that way, bandwidth outside europe/us/canada is expensive as fuck, otherwise they would move there long time ago.

TeenCat 12-10-2014 02:16 AM

maybe it have something to do with the new try to promote and sell new music over torrents? :2 cents:

you never know :) for example, why it took so long? and i thought piratebay is in order with swedish laws, so why now? start like that music hamster under better control? just thinking aloud, but similar things that makes you hmmm happennings so why not? :winkwink: :2 cents:

Captain Kawaii 12-10-2014 02:35 AM

I believe this was a special case as the article mentioned that videos from the recent Sony hack made their way onto TPB linklists... :2 cents:

That said, I think govs and big money are fed up with financial losses and as money tightens, affiliates know what I'm sayin, so they are taking harder action. :2 cents:

But with a torrent portal you don't host anything, only really small torrent tracker files.

Well they are small indeed, but when you have several million hits daily that consume a lot of bandwith one way or another.

Yea, North Korea really hurt Sony bad. Kind of odd thinking about it.

North Korea wanted Sony to censor "The Interview". Sony did not censor. North Korea steals movies from Sony and puts the movies on Pirates Bay. Pirates Bay is shut down. People get made and yell "censorship!".

You can in us/eu/ca - anywhere else only if operating high profitable business. As i said already, dont you think how they would move long time ago if that would be a case.Especially considering howmuch time they got their servers raided here.

Offshore (Panama) ded. server starting at $195 doesn't sounds really expensive.. of course I know one ded. server wont cut it :) Anyway it can't be that more expensive offshore then in us/eu, can it? :)

Where there is a will there is always a better way and they will find it.

Hell. Cloudflare has no problem helping them hide.

imohalep 12-10-2014 05:09 PM

TPB can't go down

mineistaken 12-11-2014 08:50 AM

I don't think so. Remember isohunt.com? Check it out, it was closed with a bang months or a year ago. So what? New isohunt is kicking on another domain :)

These are just "bangs" but nothing changes.

thecatwrites 12-13-2014 06:24 AM

The Pirate Bay always manages to spring back to business :D

iSpyCams 12-13-2014 07:40 AM

As far as bandwidth, TPB's use is minimal since it's all magnet links. As far as other torrent sites going away, I wouldn't bet on it, TPB is a public tracker, private trackers are where all the action is now anyway.

Oddly I bought 2 porn subscriptions last week for the first time in a decade. Well, 3 if you count Beaner's new site but that was just out of curiosity, it wasn't for the content.

The other 2 I bought because of content I liked on torrent sites and I wanted to see the latest updates. So I insist that the best defense against piracy is to stay current and productive. I mean sure we could make more money if there was no piracy, but the two sites I bought last week would never have gotten my notice or my money if I hadn't found those clips on torrents.

it is seriously easy to take down and arrest people outside EU/US if you are a big production company with lots and lots of $$$ :2 cents: and lets not forget that torrents/lockers are pure theft and piracy, in my country the police would shut them down and put them in jail for 6 months in "investigative custody" until they figure out what the hell they did :1orglaugh ...I don't know if you understood me correctly but they would arrest you for something that sounds suspicious, let alone for something they know is illegal plus they got say 500$ from Sony Pictures...500$ is a lot in my country, for 5000$ they would probably off you :1orglaugh

so going outside the US and EU is not a good idea if you are going to piss somebody off that has lots of money :thumbsup

crockett 12-13-2014 08:49 AM

It's still up.. just a new domain.. It's run by the same guys that did the same thing when ISOhut was taken down.

Download music, movies, games, software! The Pirate Bay - The galaxy's most resilient BitTorrent site

Have to admit that's a pretty sly way to take over the market place in torrents. These guys must of been continually archiving TPB for some time waiting for it to go down in order to stick up their own site to corner the traffic. They did the same to ISOhut.com when it was taken down and put up a new site on the .to ext.

wow, thats indeed impressive.

Captain Kawaii 12-13-2014 09:14 AM

Instead of IS beheading spies there should be public beheadings of torrent peeps. I think that would be a decent deterrent. If not, so be it.

editeur 12-13-2014 10:50 AM

If there will be no torrents, people will start use eMule with Kademlia, then i2p and tor. Maybe Freenet and Perfect Dark as well. People don't use hidden services not because they are stupid and it is to hard, but because torrents are just easier at the moment.

tammix 12-13-2014 10:52 AM

"legal" torrents from $4.95 monthly here --> usenet hehe

TrafficRush 12-13-2014 11:06 AM

When one goes down there's another that usually follows. I've seen another site that's pretty good lately.. YIFY

loreen 12-13-2014 01:49 PM

eztv.it, though, has been offline for 4-5 days already.

You can get bandwidth cheap in many many places other than the US. Maybe not as cheap as the US, but still cheap enough.

So is there at least one paysite which was not ripped off and not available at pornolab.net for free? The registration is free and the download speed is much higher than any regular paysite can afford (10's-100's of peers online simultaneously)...

Emil 12-14-2014 03:09 AM

Yes, this is the end of filesharing. I will start to buy DVDs. Yes, that's what will happen.

I'll take a guess here and say you're the owner of that site
