L.A. police officers shot unarmed black man three times: autopsy

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - An unarmed 25-year-old black man slain by Los Angeles police officers in August suffered three gunshot wounds, including one to his back, a long-awaited autopsy report into the killing showed on Monday.

Police have said two officers shot Ezell Ford, described by a family lawyer as mentally challenged, on Aug. 11 after he struggled with one of them and tried to grab the officer's holstered gun.

Ford's death, which came just days after the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown by a white police officer in Ferguson, Missouri, touched off demonstrations outside police headquarters in Los Angeles.

Just wondering; if someone is fighting with you and trying to take YOUR gun from YOU, do you tell him to go get his own weapon so you can continue?

MiamiBoyz 12-29-2014 08:27 PM

The L.A. police force is nothing but a gang of thugs who can legally carry guns.

SilentKnight 12-29-2014 09:28 PM

Guess he shouldn't have tried grabbing the officer's gun.

doesn't look good considering it took so long to get the results of the autopsy

Game over. Try to grab a police officer's gun, you are going to be shot. It's that simple.

TCLGirls 12-29-2014 10:12 PM

Because the police said the dead guy tried taking their gun, it must be true. No need to question the police version of events, because police never lie.

I use to represent LAPD... They really are nothing more than a gang with badges. One of the worse police forces in the US but they will also turn on their own very quickly if one gets out of line.

Baddog I have a question for you, not trying to be a smart ass but looking for an honest, genuine answer; do you think that in the course of any employment of any person on earth has ever existed a person that NEVER committed an error or mistake in judgement? Do you think there ever has been a doctor, teacher, lawyer, athlete, artist, CEO, investor, stockbroker, politician, ANY person in ANY capacity of employment has NEVER made a mistake in their work? Or done a bad job? Or had a lapse in judgement?

If you answered, 'no, that is humanly impossible', then wouldn't the logic follow that it would also apply to the police? If you agree to that, then how can you possibly always, unequivocally, infallibly always side with the police and never the other side on every single issue? How can you contend that the police are never in the wrong? Or made a bad call? Or just plain did a bad job?

Your 100% right. The cops, ALL COPS for that matter are only on the streets to gun down the black man.

They want to go to jail.
They want to lose their homes,
They want to lose their wives and children
They want to lose their jobs.

I did not suggest police are always telling lies.

Rather, I suggested questioning the police...like a skeptic would question anyone else's story of events. It would be foolish to accept every story from someone at face value every single time.

Mods, It's not ok to be racist on gfy, but all these hate spreading racist threads are ok?

This is the problem I have with these types of cases. It's too easy for cops to say they were just defending themselves. It might be perfectly true and maybe they were in a struggle where the officer had to shoot.. However maybe the officer made a bad decision and covered up his actions by claiming the guy reached for his gun.

Sadly, police breaking the law happens so often that we can't really trust them in this day an age. The only solution i see is to make all cops wear body cameras. The technology is there so there isn't really an excuse.

Agreed.

Just because people want oversight/accountability on the police does not mean people hate the police.

For example, we have meat/food inspectors in this country. Does that mean people hate butchers? We also have building inspectors in this country. Does that mean people hate construction workers? Of course not. Same should apply to the police.

Well the problem with that, is the police are allowed to police themselves with internal investigations. All shootings should be investigated by an outside agency that is made up with 50/50 police/civilian investigators.
