Live Long and Prosper

MediaGuy 02-27-2015 10:30 AM

FUCK NO!

It's inevitable. We all die. But not Nimoy, not Spock!! Our generation who grew up with him should all have died before him.

Not fair.

R.I.P. Leonard Nimoy.

I LOVED that show! The footage was so grainy and cheap-looking it was a fucking classic and probably where Giorgio got his "inspiration" for Ancent Aliens.

Spock dies before Shatner? Doesn't seem right at all.

SPOCK!!!!

Paz 02-27-2015 10:41 AM

Legend. See you down there Mr Spock.....

pornguy 02-27-2015 10:42 AM

So many defining moments for this guy, but one my best memories occured during the initial theatre run of the first Star Trek movie. Fans had been waiting for something, anything 'Trek' for years. The place was packed. There's one point partway into the film where a small spacecraft is docking at a space station. It approaches, then it makes a cool little flip around and comes alongside the docking port. The crowd in the theatre was silent, transfixed.

And just as it did that little flip maneuver, out of the silence some guy yelled out "SPOCKKKKKK!!!!!"

Everyone broke out laughing. And cheering. And as it happened it was Spock.

It wasn't the greatest film ever made but that right there was a moment I'll never forget.

His "in search of" series was quite awesome. He was the perfect guy for it, his name alone lent an extra air of expectation to the whole thing.

To say he'll be missed just doesn't quite say it, but he will.

Decrepitude.
Jolting when a hero dies.

SilentKnight 02-27-2015 10:58 AM

Do not grieve.

He'll be re-animated in March with the Genesis device.

But seriously...it's the passing of an icon. Like many here, I grew up watching ST:TOS and always loved Nimoy's character.

Shatner is the last of four now. Scotty, McCoy and now Spock.

RIP Leonard Nimoy.

I think I am one of the few who LOVE that movie (Star Trek : The Motion Picture, 1979). I think I've watched it over 100 times by now. And the spock-revealing scene you describe had the same effect on me the first time I saw it during its original run in the theatres. Yay, Spock!

Over the past 5 years or so I've been attending the Comicon shows here in Montreal and have had the chance to meet lots of Sci-Fi icons, but never got to meet Nimoy. Too bad - it would have been really nice to shake that mans hand.

RIP Leonard Nimoy.

dyna mo 02-27-2015 11:14 AM

This is highly illogical.

I've never been to any shows or anything but I'm a huge closet Trekkie spanning all the way back to when the original series episodes were first-run on TV.

I'm the inventor of the Vulcan high-five, btw.

Leonard Nimoy posted this poem to his twitter account
( TheRealNimoy ) on February 22, 2015, 5 days before his death. Mr. Nimoy regularly dispersed words of wisdom and support to total strangers. He would often close out his tweets with LLAP, and for this description I shall do the same in honor of Mr. Nimoy to all of you, Live Long and Prosper.

Well put - although the funny thing is my wife absolutely hates anything Star Trek related, yet she loves/overdoses on TBBT and Sheldon Cooper's character (she watches every TBBT marathon and she's even bought each season box set on blu-ray).

And she's 43.

I'm sure she'll love me givin' out her age. :1orglaugh
