Dis would piss me off: Woman Filming Law Enforcement Has Phone Smashed by Federal Agent

If someone smashed my Motorola flip phone

Quote:

The tensions continue between citizens who choose to film the police in action and law enforcement officers who prefer not to be filmed in action.

In an incident Sunday, a woman was trying to film a law enforcement operation in South Gate, in Los Angeles County, Calif.

As NBC 4 reports, one member of the authorities came over to her, grabbed her phone and tossed it to the ground.

The woman, identified by the LA Times as 34-year-old Beatriz Paez, was fortunate that someone on the other side of the road was filming her as she tried to film the officers of the law.

The cop should be put in jail for assault.

Except that wasnt a cop it was a federal officer involved in a federal investigation. Meaning anyone recording what was going on could have revealed the identities of those involved. You should watch the entire video where the federal officers repeatedly ask her nicely to stop recording and the woman just keeps going on and on about her rights.

She should forego her perfectly legal rights because someone asks nicely? I can't agree with that :) 'could have' and any derivations of that I'm sure were looked at before judges decided it was perfectly legal to film law enforcement in public (anyone watching could have done xyz). Asking nicely != overriding of rights :2 cents:

I dont think youre understanding the scope of the situation. She was recording federal officers performing an investigation, this investigation was going on for quite some time. IF the identities of those involved were released bad things could happen. She was not within her right to be recording, in fact it may be illegal. I dont agree with the smashing of the phone i think deleting it would have been sufficient. Then again who knows what happened between the woman and marshalls before the cameras were recording the both of them.

Whats going on in the states seems just ludicrous. Makes us second guess wanting to spend much time there this winter.

why she not charged obstruction? i see now, she didn't do nuffins

Joshua G 04-23-2015 09:02 AM

some cops are like pit bulls, attack the people they are supposed to serve. but thats what you want in a cop. need badasses to fight the badasses out there, selling pot.

Harmon 04-23-2015 09:16 AM

I like how the cop (if you've seen the video you will know what I'm talking about) kind of walks calmly up and around her field of vision and slams the phone down so as to not get caught on the video.... meanwhile, he has no clue that there is somebody else filming it.

That being said, if this was a federal investigation as many are claiming, she could be putting these men and women in harm's way. A lot of them work undercover and destroying that cover could put the investigation in danger or their lives.

Time will tell the outcome of this one. :2 cents:

Los Angeles Cops Snatches, Stomps Camera

There is contact information listed there if you want to complain. According to another article I've read, as long as you don’t get in their way, it’s perfectly legal to take photos and videos of police officers everywhere in the United States. This should be NO different and I don't know why people presume it would be just because they're Marshals!

Acepimp 04-23-2015 09:54 AM

I give a shit if they are federals or about their investigation. They were in PUBLIC, and the US Supreme Court has ruled that it's perfectly fine to film public servants in public! When will these a-holes realize that?!?

You're an idiot.

Some of these men and women are the same people that make it possible for you to do what you do (if you are even involved in the industry) or even post here. If you do not get that there are other places in the world that are a lot harsher? You have been coddled your entire life.

Want to post on GFY or get decapitated for stealing some food? The choice is yours.

Yeah, sometimes cops have to take shit into the PUBLIC. Imagine that :1orglaugh

Like everything else, there is a time and a place for everything. This wasn't some college kid getting his ass kicked for having 2 grams of dank at a concert. This was a calculated raid on a residence, and this fat Puerto Rican takes it upon herself to just start filimg them for the fuck of it.

They should have broken her jaw instead of her Walmart brand android, Boost mobile, MetroPCS shit. :2 cents:

Oops, EDIT: Trying to stir up some comments by playing devil's advocate.

Choopa Phil 04-23-2015 10:11 AM

Exactly! It was a RAID, its not like they can cover the house with a tent to protect the identities of the parties involved OR the identities or the officers who were undercover.

Just imagine if your husband or wife was an agent undercover and their identity leaked due to some passer-by. Next thing you know you have a drug cartel trying to kill your family. I know i'd want my counterparts to protect me illegal or not. I'm going to say this woman is lucky she didnt get arrested.

Tom_PM 04-23-2015 10:12 AM

No Harmon, it's you who is the idiot. If they take shit in public then they know the rules of being in public apply. Unless you're saying that the US Marshals are just idiots too. I hope he gets punished for violating her constitutional rights, which is what he did no matter how much shit we may try to wrap it in.

But that's the argument always, isn't it? Do what we say otherwise TERRIBLE THINGS WILL HAPPEN....c'mon man. You know what is coming: jail time for anyone who films ANY cop or Fed. Tick tick tick, only a matter of time.

Tough shit. The rules apply to everyone in the United States. What is hard to comprehend about this? Seriously.

Yeah, but if they were in the process of heading into that house to catch the guy that has been repeatedly ass raping your 11yo daughter for the past month while you had no idea if she was safe or not, and some obese Mexican cunt shows up to fuck shit up because she wants fake internet points from Youtube?

You'd change your fucking tune, wouldn't you.

Fuck you. :2 cents:

Why don't you move your ass over to the Middle East and start crying everybody a river because YOUR cell phone got broen by some federal agents trying to do their job.

You know what they would do?

Butt fuck you 80 hemorrhoids from Sunday. And when they were done? They'd spit on your bleeding ass and then tell you that you have no internet access, because there is no internet access.

Hate it here so bad? Move.

Yes but who was filming the guy who was filming her as the cop broke her phone.

MiamiBoyz 04-23-2015 01:02 PM

Too bad Mr. Piggy got pissed that someone was exercising their constitutional rights (for now) to film in public and attached them for it!

Don't worry Mr. Piggy...your government will take that right away soon enough and then you can continue to abuse your power with no evidence or accountability.

That's about as lame excuse as any. The guy clearly is not a under cover agent when he's walking around in tactical gear on a police operation. There was zero reason for what he did other than just being a fucking dick head cop with an authority complex.

So you know for a 100% fact that she did not have any witness or case information recorded on her phone? What if these witnesses or those involved needed to be in witness protection? They were busting up a gang so I'm sure it was something related to that. Not making excuses for the guy, but you really dont know what was involved. More details will follow and the truth will eventually come out. Not defending him smashing the phone, I think the video could have been deleted if she was infact violating the law.

Then the cops didn't do their job.. Cops don't take witnesses on raids with them, use your brain. Also where do you get off just assuming its gang related? Cops have been using swat teams for all kinds of low level non violent offender crimes.

mineistaken 04-23-2015 04:01 PM

cop could just say "I din do nuffins" and be in the clear :winkwink:

This was a biker gang bust by the feds. Check the link below where the local NBC affiliate states they blurred the coverage in case officers were under cover. The woman sounds like a real cunt when told to move because it's unsafe.

I'm all for cops wearing video cameras, even bystanders taking videos of local cops. But as federal law enforcement taking down a biker gang I really wouldn't want my face out there for identification/retaliation.

This is video not shown before ...

Im not assuming its been posted on several news sources...and by witnesses I meant the people involved in the bust. i.e. whomever got caught. Fact of the matter is you dont know if the identities of those involved needed to be protected and neither do I. Its all speculation at this point.

Ok. This is America, bitch! I'm an idiot for stating the Supreme Court ruling on this?? Ok. Whatever dude. Do you even have a triple digit IQ? It was a fat fuck wearing jeans, not a swat team in full gear with masks. Lady had the right to film, period. Also, Go Fuck Yourself.
