David Letterman's last show - What do you thin

One of my favorite talk show hosts has retired. Dave Letterman's last show was amazing. I was just wondering have you seen it, what do you think of Bill Murray's popping out of a cake stunt, Conan O'Brien's message, etc? :)

I am not a TV watcher, but I really liked The Late Night Show. If you are reading this Dave (and I am sure you are regular on GFY) - thank you :P

I thought it was great -

Dave was the only late night talk show host who could actually deal with the stupidity and shallowness of show business without the obvious asskissing that normally goes on with those shows.

Celebrity interview shows like that are simply used for promotion of celebrities and whatever they happen to be promoting at the time and Letterman always was able to keep it down to earth and even made it obvious that was the real agenda.

He made some interesting watchable late night tv and there is now a void that will certainly not be filled anytime soon - if ever. The golden age of television is clearly in the rearview mirror and fading away...

He will be missed. It was a great show.

I never liked Dave and always watched Leno, although honestly not often - only when someone we really liked was on it.

We watch Jimmy Fallon every night, however. He is the greatest.

Last show was great, as were all the tributes. But I stopped watching Dave when he left NBC. I always hated the sound of the cavernous Ed Sullivan Theater. Dave was better at 12:30.

But I have high hopes for Colbert. His show will be the only one I watch now, especially with Jon Stewart gone.

Oh - and ENOUGH with the Scottish/British/South African-accented Hosts, ok? THIS IS FUCKING AMERRRRICA!!!!

same, couldn't have been a bigger fan than me of Letterman during the NBC Late Night days - thing is that Dave could never appeal to the mainstream 11:30 Tonight Show audience, he was too caustic and sarcastic for the Carson/Leno audience. He had to change to fit in at 11:30 and that was the end for me and sadly for him too.

The closing montage of photos last night with Foo Fighters playing Everlong live had my eyes watering, it was like watching my life pass before my eyes.

Me too!

And what really grabbed me was when they showed his wife and son in the audience and he thanked them for being his family and said "Nothing else matters"

That is a truth that only comes with wisdom.

yeah that was touching - even though I wasn't a viewer any more I hate that he's retiring - Don Rickles is 90 and still doing live shows touring around North America. Look at all the rock bands/artists still working that are the same age as Letterman.

I saw Don Rickles at The Orleans Casino here in Vegas a few months ago. It was really cool.

And Letterman isn't even old enough to be in The Rolling Stones...who just finished an Asian tour and who kicked of a new North American stadium tour this month!

Not picking on you but they have always said Dave's jokes were really deep and you have to have the right mind set or IQ to really grasp how funny they really are. Just saying

I dvred it and was bummed to see the end was cut off :(. I didn't see any of the foo fighters or ending.

But the show was great otherwise. I always liked him and his sense of humor. I don't really watch any of the talk shows anymore cause with satellite there is always something better on or I'm catching up on dvred shows.
