Plans if ICANN exposes your whois info?

Curious what all of you plan to do if you lose your whois proxy. Fake it till ya make it? I changed all my info to fake stuff.

I figure the porn industry would have some serious lobbying in Washington against this.

We will find out on the 5th what will happen. Been in the news a bit lately.

I have an office. I don't care who knows where it is or that I run by business from it. That's what it's for.

kylesk 07-01-2015 12:53 PM

Websites are just a side job for me.

Don't want family\employers knowing what kinda sites i run.

lol i could just see it. Employer looks my name up and sees that i own a website that focuses on gay dwarf big cock sex.

I guess getting a PO box with a LLC could be an option.

sicone 07-01-2015 02:31 PM

You should read up on what happens to domains with fake info...

ruff 07-01-2015 05:30 PM

Get a DBA name or an LLC, a mail box drop or PO Box and fuck it.

Yup, Never use fake addresses or info. I use an LLC for my porn businesses. It's not hard to set up and it saves you hassles in the long run.

Well first, ICAAN would have to hold years of committee meetings in exotic places with your domain registration fees paying the tab ...

Don't expect a prompt policy change from ICANN.

Secondly, this runs a foul of various governmental privacy laws, the EU in particular.

https://gacweb.icann.org/display/gac...sory+Committee

They haven't referred the matter to the Governmental Advisory Committee yet:upsidedow

Don't sound battle stations just yet -- it's just a proposal by an IP troll, MonitorMark.

PO Box is the way to go. If the business is registered, the info is publicly available anyway isn't it?

shake 07-01-2015 06:26 PM

I use the UPS store so I can accept express packages which most PO boxes don't. Also use a voip service so I don't share my normal phone numbers.

Post office box owner records:
https://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/39/265.6

You need a subpoena or a court order.

If you file a DBA, LLC or Corporation it is public record.
But you may have to pay (e.g.; fees $5 or a page ) and/or appear personally to get addresses of the filing principals or stockholders.

Christopher Mallik (epassporte did that too):helpme The Middle Man Truth - Christopher Mallick is a Thief!

Thanks for the info guys. I am gunna look into setting up a LLC today with a UPS mailbox. Probably better to do that anyways and protect my personal assets from any possible lawsuits in the future.

And as far as me reading up about what happens to domains with fake info.. yea. If my name and addy was exposed I wouldn't want the domains anymore anyways so they would be doing me a favor. Since I am gunna look into a LLC I will switch it all back for now.

Yea I don't know why I got all alarmed. I am very political and know how long that shit takes to get pushed through. Maybe Reid and Boehner can exchange BJs while they fast track it : )

EliteWebmaster 07-01-2015 07:11 PM

Is that fucker Christopher Mallik still alive? Seriously I heard he was paralyzed from the neck down during an incident at an underground parking lot :) There is no suspects :)

Did you ever hear, or if you did, how often, domain being taken for wrong info and correct email?
I never heard anyone had to confirm their physical address or even name.

Of course you won't be 100% safe, but ..
Maybe if you enter some legal battle over domain, then your details may be questioned, but under normal circumstances?

Wrong info, yes. If ICANN gets multiple complains for a domain or just if the address looks shady (like some ass clown recently on GFY ripping people off but his address was some Pakistan address with Cyprus as the country) things that are too obvius like that, it will automatically trigger an ICANN request, they will ask the registar to ask you to confirm your address and email. If you fail to comply within 3 months, and they do their check again, they will seize the domain, then give you X number of days to reply to them directly to confirm. Failure to do so will render the domain deleted/sold.

The Porn Nerd 07-01-2015 07:49 PM

I think if WHOIS goes away it will affect far more mainstream sites and this is why it won't go away. Religious groups, giant corps, governments, all kinds of people don't necassarily want thier personal info out there for all to see.

brandonstills 07-01-2015 11:08 PM

If you can't go through a proxy for your domain then go through a proxy for your business address / contact info. A pain in the ass, but doable. I imagine solutions will pop up if it goes through. Would really suck if it does though.

The thing is it won't protect you from lawsuits, but it will protect you from domain whois harvesters and spammers (somewhat)
