so the FDA is AOK with 11 year olds taking heroin?

im sorry, i meant oxycontin. but as everyone knows, whats the difference?

FDA Approves OxyContin for Children as Young as 11 - NBC News

this is the most disgusting thing i've read since bush announced there were no WMDs in Iraq. fuckin, marijuana is schedule 1???? clownshoes!

its terrible how our government allows extremely addictive chemicals to be sold to the public when at least 20% of those people become hooked & eventually turn to heroin. This legal drug is the basis for the heroin epidemic & the tens of thousands of dead innocents.

& now they're approved to hook 'em at 11 years old. Why again did they ban Joe camel? WTF???

all so big pharma can impress wall street. Gross.

Apparently these kids have some sort of chronic pain. What should they do for relief? Nobody wants them to suffer.

true. at what cost? i did a stint in outpatient rehab last year. & half the people in group were there because they got hooked on oxy after being in a hospital for car accident, sports injury, bank vault accident. totally normal people, not junkies who had nothing but drugs to live for. they had no idea they could get addicted. 10-20% of people are prone to addiction.

is there really no non-addictive painkiller in the marketplace that society should bear this cost? how many dead people are OK to treat a kid?

this stuff should be prohibited until there is a genetic test for addiction. nobody knows they have addiction personality until after a drug triggers the addiction, & then its too late. basically anyone who takes oxy is playing russian roulette. didnt humans get by for thousands of years without big pharma?

i thought pot cured everything anyway.

I think high cbd low thc pot would be more appropriate for a child. I would try that before giving my kid opiates.

Convince me pediatric cancer patients have less pain than adult patients and I'll listen to what you have to say.

Just because it is approved for 11 year olds does not mean every pediatrician is going to prescribe it.

its not about a child pain threshold vs adults. what good is a painkiller that kills you??? do you understand what people with addiction go through once they are chemically dependent?

it totally destroys everything in a persons life so they can use. they will use until they end up in jail or dead. were not talking tens of deaths, hundreds of deaths, or thousands of deaths. we're talking tens of thousands of deaths. even more than the stats because many autopsies do not list the drug of death when people OD. its like the Iraq war.

:(

that would be a lot more sane than gambling with a childs life on an opiate.

Maybe you should blog about it.

I agree. Still think it's good to have a stronger option available if the pot or other meds won't help the child.

Kids can already get marijuana prescriptions, it's commonly used for kids with seizures.

i agree...once science has a test for addiction genetics. then people can know whether they can take the drug without becoming a slave.

i myself have the addiction shit. im very thankful i never graduated off pot. once i fell in love with the happy plant i never felt a need to do anything else. i even stopped drinking 100%, had no need for it anymore. for me just putting down the blunt long enough to function is mental labor. i cant imagine being hooked on an opiate, as pleasurable as heroin sounds. i know i will die if i take an oxy. i believe the non addiction personality does not experience the same level of hyperturbo nirvana that addiction prone people get & subsequently crave to the point of depravity. but thats just IMO.

i would never wish my relatively lightweight dependency issue on anyone. annoying being unhappy except when im high.

Anyone that is silly enough to believe that ANY strain of weed, be it CBD, THC or hybrid is as effective on chronic pain as an opiate has never suffered severe chronic pain. :2 cents:

nobody is conflating the 2 things here except you. obviously one reigns supreme for painkilling. however the opiate has a death rate of 16,000 people per year, not including heroin ODs. Pot has a death rate of zero.

so a prudent person may try the chemical that definitely wont kill them first. then roll the dice on the killer shit. :)

Weed is not a chemical; and there are certain pain that they know isn't going to be taken care of with weed anymore than it would with aspirin. Why would you want to delay the pain relief with something you know isn't going to work?

And opiates help more people than they kill. Not everyone is as weak as you.

My little brother got cancer when he was in high school. It took him almost a year to die. Painkillers were all that prevented the two of us from finding a way to end his life for him.

I suffer with chronic pain and do better with cbd rich cannabis coconut capsules than I do with the opiates.

Oxycontin doesn't even come close to heroin and I would have had to take massive amounts of it to barely cure my heroin withdrawals back in the day.

These kids were already being prescribed strong pain medication and if their doctors think they could benefit from switching to a different painkiller then I don't see the issue. They aren't prescribing this shit to kids coming in with some little aches and pains they're prescribing it to the kids who have serious pain issues. Doctors are already deathly afraid to prescribe strong medication because of all the shit that gets thrown their way so there's already a lot of people out there who could have used stronger medication and didn't get it.

Starting to become quite the concern https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fentanyl
Fentanyl is approximately 80 to 100 times more potent than morphine and roughly 40 to 50 times more potent than pharmaceutical grade (100% pure) heroin.[11][12]
Kids thinking they are taking a oxy but od on this shit.too many deaths .Very sad situation
