I understand there are two pilots and also that most of the flight is on autopilot.

Still, a pilot having a heart attack in the cockpit flapping his (her) arms around could be a huge problem in such a small yet important space.

People who have sudden heart attacks don't tend to flap around a lot. They just die.

At what point will someone from the ground be able to fly the planes remotely in instances like this?

too risky, hack it get remote control and hijack .... no need to board the plane.

Dude was a pilot. Just think how many hot babes he banged over the years because.......because he is a pilot. I am sure life was fairly good.
